Home remedies for yellow-ish hair?

I usually have ash/cool blonde highlights, with a few cool brown highlights to ''break it up", I always have cool colours as anything "warm" really collides with my skin.

God knows what happened, but my stylist gave me brassy, yellow highlights. I went back to have it fixed, and whilst it's a bit better now, it's still a little too yellow, and I can't face going back a third time - plus I work long hours and really can't afford the time. I now have to wear foundation all the time just to make myself look vaguely ok-ish.

I will be going to a different salon next time, but in the meantime is there anything I can do at home? I'm using John Freida purple shampoo but it's not making much difference.

Someone told me to buy a packet of Nice and Easy in light ash brown, shampoo it in, then rinse it straight out without waiting.

You need a toner. You can buy in boots (Bleach London is the brand). It cools down any brassiness. Then buy some 'silver shampoo', which is actually a dark purple shampoo that neutralises brassiness.

Sorry - just seen you have the john frieda purple shampoo. That's good for every day maintenance but not strong enough to make an initial difference. Get the Bleach London toner and their silver shampoo is stronger than the john frieda one. I used that two or three times a week and john frieda on the other days.

2nd toner and silver shampoo. It's amazing what toner does.

Superdrug have got a range called Colour Freedom by Knight & Wilson which I have recently tried in Silver Blonde. You can either out it all over your head or just specifically on certain bits. It's really conditioning which makes a change for this sort of thing and it worked really well to take the yellow out of my very light bleached hair.

Bleach London is the best out there.

I've looked at the Bleach London range on the boots website, could anyone tell me exactly which one I should try? Sorry to be high maintenance.

White toner.

urgh, I had some ropey yellow highlights about 2 years ago, and they seemed to take forever to grow out.

I went to a different hairdresser next time, and got some decent lowlights put in, but she also suggested that she could put a light ash brown semi-permanent on to good effect, so I reckon your idea of using a box colour is worth a try.

Tomato ketchup!
It really works!

Be careful with putting an ash colour on top of highlights. They could well turn them a muddy green colour. I had brassy highlights, coloured them dark ash blonde and this is exactly what happened. Confused

I'm going back this week for the same thing. There's no charge big it's still 2 hours I need to find.
Only went in for a trim and colour refresh and my hair has been butchered Hmm

Update (and thank you to everyone who posted advice): I was desperate to sort this out at home yesterday, and didn’t have chance to go shopping, so I tried my John Freida purple shampoo again, but this time left it on for approx. 10 mins. And this made a huge difference. I repeated the same process again this morning, and now I’m almost back to normal. The purple shampoo is very drying though, and despite very generous applications of conditioner, my hair feels drier than it should. So now I’ve got the colour normalised, I now need to work on the condition.

I think I mentioned in my first post that I am now changing hair salons. Even though my original salon would definitely have tweaked it again for free, I simply don’t have the time to keep going back.
