Alternative to Estée Lauder Double Wear??

mrssmooth · 08/03/2015 06:36

Can anyone recommend an alternative to Estée LauderDoublewear foundation please? I'm finding that my skin looks quite dry and the pores on my cheeks are a bit too visible. I use Benefit Porefessional but am quite disappointed as I don't really think it makes a difference!

I'd still like something with good coverage, just not quite so matt - I'd love to achieve the "glowy" look but not managed so far! I've tried No7 Stay Perfect, Liz Earle and the new Estée Lauder foundation but they wore off after just a few hours.

I'm limited for samples as there are no department stores within easy reach - plenty of high street brands but only Lancôme, Clinique, EL, Benefit and No7.

Have you tried Estée Lauder double wear light? I think it's nice r than the original DW, I also use porefessionals and apply both with a foundation brush for a nice finish that lasts well.

mrssmooth · 08/03/2015 07:23

Oh I didn't think about applying Porefessional with a brush! I use a brush for foundation so I'll try that. I've got a Doublewear light sample which I'm going to try today.

Chanel vitalumiere?

susimoo · 08/03/2015 07:36

I love Dior Star. I have acne rosacea and wildly oily skin. This make up has been a revelation. No reaction, stays on, unlike most others that literally melt of my face and it's not the usual matte finish. First time I years I have a glow. I do have to blot and repair at least once daily but it still looks lovely.

I now live in fear of it being re formulated or discontinued!!
The Dior counter also gave me a great sized sample which lasted me a week to check for reaction.

Good luck!

GeorginaWorsley · 08/03/2015 07:51

I have this problem too.
Double Wear lasts but ages me.
I've tried everything else billed as long lasting, Dior Forever, Clarins Everlasting, Max Factor Face finity etc etc.
I bought Dior Star last week and I agree the finish is lovely
I too use blotting papers during the day but the original foundation remains in place if that makes sense.
I was going to buy YSL fusion ink and I may try that too..

mrssmooth · 08/03/2015 07:55

Don't have Chanel or Dior counters nearby. Think my sis uses the Chanel one so I may investigate her makeup bag when she comes to visit! Such a pain having to travel to mainland for decent makeup counters but I guess that's the drawback of living on an island!! Keep the suggestions coming ladies .. I may have to make a special trip to John Lewis ...

I'm guessing youve tried revlon colorstay (oily/combo NOT the dry skin one)? IME much much better than ELDW, finish is lovely and stay put unlike Chanel vitalumiere, but the colour isn't quite right on me so intending to try the Dior Star when I can. Also look at NARS sheer glow - good coverage and nice finish (doesn't last as long as the revlon on me though).

mrssmooth · 08/03/2015 10:44

I tried the revlon one years ago and really liked it but went back to DW (can't remember why tho!) I've just put ELDW light on and it looks quite good. But they all seem to be making my skin look dry. I just want to look dewy and glowy, not like a dried up wrinkly 41 year old (sob sob!)

I like Diorskin nude for the glowy look and my skin is oily but this foundation works well for me. Dior star felt too heavy for me and didn't control oil well. Otherwise double wear light for more coverage.

30andtired · 08/03/2015 18:03

I used Estée Lauder Double Wear for years but decided it was too drying about 6 months ago, been on the hunt for a full coverage, lasting, dewy foundation since. I tried all the high street and premium (everything already mentioned on here) and didn't take to anything until I tried Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Foundation, it's a perfect substitute for DB but I've found it works even better with Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector applied underneath.

XiCi · 08/03/2015 18:16

I use Chanel Vitalumiere and it gives good coverage together with that dewy/glow look you're after
I think it takes an instant 5 years off me, wouldn't be without it

improbablesaint · 08/03/2015 20:40

Agree re VL

evelynj · 08/03/2015 20:46

Double wear is high coverage. I love boots botanical bb cream & a light dusting of mineral foundation on top. Defo use brush & double cleanse

frankietwospots · 08/03/2015 22:51

What shade are you in Double Wear OP? I'm Fresco and have been looking at alternatives, but actually nothing comes close to the colour match I currently have with DW. What kind of brush do you use? The minute I started using the Real Techniques stippling brush, my DW looked better.

ilooklikemrsploppy · 08/03/2015 23:20

Might sound like a silly question but are you setting the Double Wear with a powder ? If so, stop ! I used Double Wear for years, always set with a powder, always worked and lasted on me for ages until about 8yrs ago when it started to make me look like an old bag (and I was only 32 then !) I got a sample a few months ago and the SA told me to skip the powder and just blot during the day. I do use a loose powder BEFORE applying the foundation though (tip from Goss Make Up on Youtube). Apply your moisturiser and let it sink in, apply the loose powder very lightly, then apply the foundation and rest of your make up as normal. It seems to be working for me at the moment.

abyssiniam8 · 09/03/2015 07:06

I also stopped using the Fresco Double Wear as i had a similar problem to you OP. I am using Clarins True Radiance now and I really like it. It lasts all day, i don't use any powders over or under. It does have that dewy finish.

mrssmooth · 09/03/2015 18:17

I was matched originally with Fresco and that's what I would normally buy, but I felt my skin had paled during winter so opted for the Calico shade which I think looks better than Fresco.

I don't use powders - I find the DW lasts long enough without it. It's just the drying effect it gives my skin. I use Real Techniques buffing brush to apply my foundation (the actual foundation brush is total pants - it'd take me days to apply foundation with it, it's so small!). Before being introduced to RT, I used "normal" foundation brushes. I may have investigate the stippling brush now Wink

I tried the DW Light yesterday and really liked it. Today, I'm trying the Body Shop Mineral foundation, which is the only one which seems to have that dewy look I'm after, but I'm not 100% sure it's "the one" (will I ever find "the one"?!).

I like the sound of Vitalumiere but I don't have a Chanel counter near me - I'd need to be colour matched to it, and get a sample before I buy (I'm guessing it's not cheap!!) Thanks for the advice. I think out of the ones I've tried so far, its either DW Light or the Bodyshop Minerals one.

My other question is do you use a primer? I'm thinking of trying the Dior Glow Maximiser under my Double Wear. It looks very metallic/glittery when you apply it on your hand but Sali Hughes swears blind it's the best product ever so I figure it's worth a go!

mrssmooth · 10/03/2015 16:30

Hi frankietwospots, I've been using Benefit Porefessional for a couple of weeks now. It feels lovely on the skin although I'm not so sure how effective it is really! I liked StoryOfMyLife's suggestion of using a brush, so I've done that a couple of times and I think it may look better, but it's not so great that I look at myself and say "wow, that looks amazing!"

OP posts:
Fcukfifa · 10/03/2015 18:56

I've got the Dior glow maximiser and it's pants, very glittery and drying.

I'm using a no7 illuminator at the minute that was £17,but tried a topshop one today that looked great and was £9 so will be trying that next.

I also use the clarins true radiance but I don't think it has lasting power.

GingerLDN · 10/03/2015 19:52

Smashbox studio skin foundation

frankietwospots · 10/03/2015 22:00

Oh no Fcukfifa! Better not waste my cash then! Let us know how you get on with the Top Shop one. I rate their stuff, esp the lippies.

Fcukfifa · 10/03/2015 23:15

Will do Smile
Did buy a beautiful nudey/touch of brown lipstick from topshop, makes me feel slightly better about losing my go to nude mac lipstick!

wildflowersummermeadow · 11/03/2015 08:14

Try Vichy Dermablend
It changed my life after I wrote a post similar to yours a year or so ago!
DW so drying and aging. Vichy provides excellent coverage and feels light and creamy and a few people have said I have "lovely skin"...this is purely down to the makeup as I do not have lovely skin - have eczema, big pores, dry patches - all sorts! But the Vichy is natural looking and conceals flaws at the same time
Much cheaper too - and can get at larger Boots

Xxx

GingerLDN · 11/03/2015 19:07

Go and get a sample of cliniques newest one (just out) just got some today I love it. Like doublewear but not as dry/cakey, feels great
