Black tie event. Foot problem.

I'm going to my first black tie event for about 15 years next weekend. I think I've got a dress to wear as long as I don't eat anything for the next week but my problem is shoes.

Firstly, I just can't wear heels like I used to.

Secondly, I have what I suspect to be a bit of a bunion on one foot so wearing anything remotely tight leaves me in a fair amount of pain, especially if I'm having to walk and distance or dance. I recently bought some black ankle boots (never thought I'd own a pair) but I've discovered that I'm enjoying the extra height and I've been able to get away with them with a dress for work.

So my question is this: can I get away with ankle boots with a cocktail dress or am I completely off the mark? Please bear in mind that I haven't got a stylish bone in my body and my default setting is the flip flop or welly look Blush

TIA Smile

I don't think so. But I'm not fashionable. You could find some nice ballet pumps maybe?

DevonFolk · 07/03/2015 10:45

Possibly, but I'm a bit short and stumpy so heels would definitely help in that department!

Forgot to add that because the dress is green and black I'll most likely wear black opaque tights. Or is that wrong too?!

What is the dress like? Long, short, strappy, with sleeves etc.?

It's really pretty. What about some of those Fly London wedge heels? They're comfortable and feel less high because of the wedge. I would wear the black tights as you say, but then my style is definitely more librarian chic than high fashion so someone will probably come along to say that's all wrong. Wink

That dress with boots would be great for going out to a bar but I don't think it is really very "Black tie". (sorry)

I do really like the dress but it's very borderline - it needs your shoes and accessories to be extra-glam in order to take it into black tie territory. Boots would be dressing it down, not up.

Thanks everyone. I've just gone out and bought myself a beautiful blingy dress (black sparkly) and some strappy shoes (which will hopefully not be too bad). I hate shopping so decisions were made relatively quickly!
