So exactly as title says. My beloved ghd straighteners have broken. Had this last pair about 4 years and had 2 other pairs before that. They've always lasted 4-5 years of daily use before I needed to replace them.
I vaguely remember reading a thread on here that the manufacturer had changed and the newer versions aren't as good as they once were.
Obviously they are quite expensive which is fine but I don't want to pay all that money to be disapointed. Are there any other brands I should look at before I buy?
Thank you wise ladies Grin

My current ones are Babyliss I think. Were half price at £30 but can't remember their name, sorry.

4-5 yrs seems short for ghd though, mine lasted 10 yrs & I've friends who use older sets. Might be worth contacting ghd to see how much repair would be maybe Smile

Mrsderekshepard · 06/03/2015 22:46

I've been told could9 are good

Rockinghorse123 · 07/03/2015 04:42

Really lucysmam ? I thought it was quite good going! These last ones have had a bit snapped off the plug (I have no idea how, and neither does anyone else in the house apparently Hmm) and electrician DH says beyond repair, so I think they are officially gone Sad
Cloud 9... yes they were mentioned on the thread I read just couldn't remember the name. Thanks, will research!

As Shepard said, I've heard things from hairdressers that Cloud 9 are good, they said they were all fighting over them rather than use the GHD's.
Your straighteners don't seem to be lasting too long though? I've only had three pairs of GHDs in about 11/12 years?

KateSpade · 07/03/2015 08:44

Duh! I suppose that makes each pair last about 4 years?

What I meant was my current pair I've had for about 8/9 years?

tak1ngchances · 07/03/2015 08:45

I have new ghd ones in a case that I don't use as actually I need volume and movement in my fine hair or I look like a drowned rat.
I will sell them to you if you want? They've been used about 6 times.

My friend has purple zebras (I'm sure that's what there called) honestly there brilliant

Walkingonsunshine00 · 07/03/2015 09:23

The ghd producers have left ghd and are now manufacturing cloud nines so if you want same quality etc cloud nines!

babygiraffe86 · 07/03/2015 09:31

My ghds have lasted me 12 years so far - dreading the day they die off :-( (only used a couple of times a week though)

I've heard good things about these new cloud 9 ones, friend is a stylist and she swears by remington wet to straight ones as her at home ones :-)

MadisonMontgomery · 07/03/2015 09:32

Don't get ghd's! Bought some last month & they are rubbish, nothing like they used to be Sad

Germgirl · 07/03/2015 09:43

I have a very old pair of GHDs, probably about 12 years old. They still work fine but they're not dual
voltage so when I went to the U.S. I bought these not expecting them to be brilliant because of the price.
They're amazing. I use them all the time now instead of the GHDs. I don't use the curling but but the straightener is one of the best I've ever used. Honestly, give them a go. You won't regret it.

Rockinghorse123 · 07/03/2015 16:02

Thanks ladies. I popped into my hairdresser he has changed from ghd to cloud 9 says they are great so I went with them. Going to wash my hair later just so I can try them out!

Remington Colour Protect ones are brill - priced around £26, I find them just as good as GHD's if not better.

ChesterCake · 09/03/2015 08:13

I use a GHDS repair service from ebay it's about £15. Fitting a new cable is the reason I always need them fixing!

iwantgin · 09/03/2015 08:28

I have been using Fudge straighteners for over 10 years. The same pair.

I think I paid about £60 (trade price for them)

They are great - I bought them from the salon, that's what they used in there at the time.

I can't tell the difference between having my hair done with GHDs or the Fudge.

Not sure if they are still available though ?

justjuanmorebeer · 09/03/2015 22:02

I really rate corioliss.
They get as hot as ghds but the temp is adjustable so you can turn them down if wanted. very good
