Which perfumes leave a scent after you've gone?

I've noticed that a couple of the very chic mums from my dd's school wear perfumes that you can smell, even after they've gone. They're not heavy/overwhelming (such as Obsession by CK or Envy by Gucci); just ... beautiful!

I don't know these women other than a nod a smile on the school run, so feel it's a bit weird to ask them about their perfume.

Any recommendations, please? Smile

Clinique aromatics.

ProbablyMe · 06/03/2015 14:03

My sister's perfume always lingered - first it was Lovely by SJP and more recently Elie Saab. I use Princess by Vera Wang (despite the overtly pink and sparkly bottle) and find that tends to linger too. I guess it depends a bit on body chemistry really - what works for one person won't necessarily work for everyone.

BuzzardBird · 06/03/2015 14:05

My friend wears Aromatics and I cannot smell a thing on her.

CarbeDiem · 06/03/2015 14:11

Red delicious - DKNY lingers.

Ask them if you really like the smell - I would :)

DrankSangriaInThePark · 06/03/2015 14:15

Before opening the thread I immediately thought Aromatics Elixir too.

Truckingalong · 06/03/2015 14:15

Aromatics is super strong. You can smell it 3 rooms away!

LowLevelBlinging · 06/03/2015 14:17

does it not just mean that they absolutely soak them selves in it?? Confused

yazzy85 · 06/03/2015 14:18

Dior Addict parfum, one small spray of this is more than enough

Molotov · 06/03/2015 15:07

Thank you for your suggestions. I had a mental block on the word 'lingering' when I wrote the OP, so despite the clumsily-worded title, I'm glad you all knew what I meant!

Oh, I know I could ask those women what the perfumes are but ... doesn't it come off as too personal a question if you don't know the person at all? They aren't mums of dcs in my dds class. Also, I don't want to appear a gushing mess!

I asked a work colleague once because I swear you could see me smelling wherever she was Blush and she delightedly told me she was wearing Chloe (yes, I bought some and it is one of my favourite perfumes Grin)

Do you think they could just be liberally applying something? Even when I spray loads of, say a Next perfume on, I can't smell it after an hour.

Anyway, I'll test the suggestions, thanks again Smile

I think you are looking at perfumes with good silage. If you look on fragrantia they rate perfumes according to this.

RockCrushesLizard · 06/03/2015 15:46

Just a note that lingering perfume may not be universally admired...

My MIL is a heavy perfume user, (Aromatics among others) and our spare room reeks at the moment - four weeks after her visit, with windows open constantly for two of those weeks.

Perfume is such a personal taste - if I liked the perfume, I'd not mind the lingerage as much! - so bear in mind your target audience may not appreciate the lingering.

macnab · 06/03/2015 15:48

I wear Narciso Rodriguez for her and have been told (in a nice way!) that it lingers.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/03/2015 15:51

Yes, be considerate, lingering/strong perfumes make some of us nauseous. A faint waft as you walk by can be nice. Sharing an office with it or sitting at the next table in a restaurant and being able to smell it continually is too much.

Lottapianos · 06/03/2015 15:58

I would just ask them OP - they will be thrilled that you like their perfume. I find that people who wear fairly strong perfumes (myself included) tend not to be shrinking violets so you might end up having a good old chat!

Misslgl88 · 06/03/2015 16:28

I find it's more a wintery fragrance or nighttime but la vie est belle has gotten me compliments hours later and it seems to linger

LaCerbiatta · 06/03/2015 16:34

Anything my office colleague wears lingers, I think it has to do with how much she applies (and tops up at lunch time....). The one she usually wears one of those Bulgaris with the ring bottle and lid.

Norfolknway · 06/03/2015 16:34

I though you meant after you had died...Shock

bananaramadramallama · 06/03/2015 16:44

I quite often get asked what perfume I'm wearing and have been approached after I have been somewhere (the next time I went back), as apparently I leave a nice smell behind me.

I am firmly stuck in the 90s and wear Eternity by Calvin Klein (I have for years); I can't smell it on myself at all, but I was always under the impression that was a good thing as it means it suits you (probably old wives tale).

It doesn't suit my sister though, she wears more musky smells and smells lovely (which don't suit me).

You just have to ask people what they're wearing (they'll be flattered so will be nice to you!).

takeitonthegin · 06/03/2015 16:48

Alien is beautiful and it lingers, its made by Tierry Mugler. It's my favourite.

Only1scoop · 06/03/2015 16:51

Alien for sure....

My coat was hung at hairdressers next to an alien wearers....

Had to go and purchase....

Divine

Totallyaddictedtoshoes · 06/03/2015 16:53

Angel by Thierry Mugler lingers I find. It is heavy but I love it. I have also been complimented on Classique by Jean Paul Gaultier but I'm not sure if that's due to any lingerage or whether they just thought it smelled nice!

specialsubject · 06/03/2015 17:20

yes, be careful - to use a playground metaphor: 'pooh, you stink'.

leave no trace and that includes smells. Many of us don't like the smell of any perfume.

although reeking stinky-stick is marginally worse.

ZaraW · 06/03/2015 17:25

Yes lingering strong perfume is not pleasant has been known to give me a migraine.

takeitonthegin · 06/03/2015 17:44

only1scoop Maybe it was my coat? I love the stuff.

Only1scoop · 06/03/2015 18:47

Take....it could have been

Oooo you smell gorge Wink
