Are these trainer too boyish/young for me?

I have bought these:

Here

I am normally a plain dresser, I like colours but mostly wear grey, navy and khaki. Sweaters and skinnies.

I'm 40ish and worry I don't dress femininely enough, should I have a) bought them in the first place and b) bought a colourful pair?

Thanks.

theyre very boring and look functional, but if you like them, theres nothing awful about them, nor is there anything fun or pretty.
Have you bought them for sport? Are they comfortable?

NerrSnerr · 04/03/2015 09:28

I like them and would wear them with jeans.

AnythingNotEverything · 04/03/2015 09:29

I love my New Balance, but they're better in a brighter colour. They ought to stand out, almost clash, with a plainer, grown up outfit.

LesleyKnopeFan · 04/03/2015 09:31

I've bought them to wear casually, to be a bit 'trendy'. I do usually dress quite fashionably (is that even a word?).

So I'm thinking grey skinnies, or pleather leggings, oversized sweat, bike jacket and blanket scarf?

Yay or nay?

I'm going to order them in burgundy too. Better?

MilkThistle187 · 04/03/2015 10:26

I'd prefer the burgundy I think

frankietwospots · 04/03/2015 10:26

Burgundy would look better with grey skinnies, defo.

LesleyKnopeFan · 04/03/2015 10:27

What about with blue or khaki skinnies? Still ok or to clashy?

WowOoo · 04/03/2015 10:32

I love them and I think you can brighten up an outfit in other ways.
My grey trainers don't show up dirt like my lighter coloured ones.

I have a different brand in burgundy and these have also been worn to death. They do look great with grey. I think they'd look good with khaki also.

Boomf · 04/03/2015 11:54

They're terribly drab! Go for the Burgundy

Or throw caution to the wind and get pink Nikes

squoosh · 04/03/2015 12:01

Loads of women wear those New Balance trainers these days, they're the new Converse I think. I prefer the navy or burgundy ones too.

yazzy85 · 04/03/2015 13:56

that shade of grey does look a bit dull, maybe in a different colour?

Iforgottotellyou · 04/03/2015 17:35

I think they are fashionable and obviously very 'you' based on the colours you wear.

LesleyKnopeFan · 04/03/2015 17:44

Well, I've ordered the burgundy, will compare and contrast and report back!

GooodMythicalMorning · 04/03/2015 17:45

Not a fan but I dont like that style in general, on anybody.

dotsanddashes · 04/03/2015 17:47

I have those exact ones in burgundy, they go with black, grey, navy, khaki....really well.

I like grey trainers, but they look a bit flat.

lovingmatleave · 04/03/2015 18:18

Personally think they are too young and boyish, precisely because my 10 year old son has a burgundy and grey pair. As his 40 is year old mum, I just couldn't wear the same as him.

LesleyKnopeFan · 04/03/2015 20:21

Oh gawd, that's done it! I am too old to wear them, imagine standing next to a 10 yr old wearing the same trainers?!!

I think I've got pre-mutton syndrome, where you're unsure if something's too young for you (I guess that means it is?!)......Blush

You may have thought I was indeed decrepit if you'd seen me first thing this morning, it was like looking at a stranger in the mirror, my face seems to take 2 hours to unfold itself.......

Ha, so I'll consider myself chastised and get back on the trainernewkidontheblocktrendyyoungthingthoughratheroldand haggard trail....

Terrified by thought that in less than 5 years I might consider myself too old for trainers! You're not!

bettykt · 04/03/2015 22:18

I have these exact pair and I feel they are too plain. I'm a very plain dresser, black/charcoal/indigo skinnies with plain colour jumpers. I feel these trainers need a some colour to liven them up. They do a grey pair with an orange stripe on the sole. I wish I'd bought these instead. I'm in my 40s btw.

BritabroadinAsia · 05/03/2015 01:02

I have those but the 'N' and other detailing is bright pink, so gives them bit of a lift...wear them a lot with the colours and styles you have listed, except for my khaki skinnies as the yellow tones don't work with the grey/pink. Also in (mid) 40s, and happy they aren't making me too mutton-like! I would also recommend going for a colour, and like the sound of the burgundy.
