Don't stop me even though you've heard this one before. I'm a busy Mum ( who isn't? ) in late forties. Your product tips would be most welcome.

Aldi moisturiser/skin care range. Home Bargains stock a really good face serum too.

dexter73 · 03/03/2015 12:55

L'Oreal Micellar Water is very good to take off your make-up.

Lottapianos · 03/03/2015 12:56

Depends on your skin type - mine is dry and dehydrated. Also depends what you mean by 'budget' - Caroline Hirons asked this question on her website recently and some people thought that up to 30 was budget for a moisturiser Shock

For my skin type, I get along really well with:
Cleanser - No 7 Hot Cloth Cleanser, about a tenner
Toner - REN clarifying toner, 13 in M&S
Moisturiser - Astral, about 3, as a day cream, Nivea, about 3, as a night cream
Serum - haven't tried it yet but Sali Hughes has raved about the Vichy Aqualia Thermal serum, costs about 16
Body lotion - any Garnier, Vaseline or St Ives, whatever is on offer!

sparkysparkysparky · 03/03/2015 13:09

Thanks. For reasons that have never been clear, my skin can't tolerate any Nivea products. Otherwise, thanks for suggestions.

I've been using the Superfacialist line from Boots and it's really good.

Also Boots always have 3for2 offers so it works out quite well.

My favourite serum is by La Roche Posay, around £16 or so.

madmomma · 03/03/2015 14:44

yy to superfacialist by una brennan. The cleansing oil is gorgeous.
I like the boots time delay day cream with spf30 too.
I swear by nivea Q10 night cream (admittedly over Lauder's ANR)
the palmers aha smoothing body lotion is good for bumpy skin and pretty cheap.
No7 p&p facial suncreams are brilliant and cheap

madmomma · 03/03/2015 14:46

Ooh the time delay brightening cleanser in a tube is lovely too. And the whole time delay range is frequently discounted.

mowglik · 03/03/2015 14:56

Agree aldi skincare, loreal mi cellar water for cleansing, oil cleansing method for cleansing, fibrology for volumising hair, palmers cocoa butter for body lotion, Avon anew eye cream for lifting saggy upper eyelids (nothing else works as well!).

LackingCommonSense · 06/03/2015 19:32

Bumping because I want recommendations for night cream! my skin doesn't like nivea blue pot Sad

chanie44 · 06/03/2015 19:52

I use the body shop. It is expensive, there is always an offer code knocking around.

BallroomWithNoBalls · 06/03/2015 19:53

I adore Nivea blue pot! But some on here swear by Astral which is similar so perhaps try that?

I did use Soap and Glory Peaches and Clean cleanser which was about £8 but often in Boots 3 for 2 - I now have Elemis Hydrating Rose Petal Cleanser which cost £16 (usually around £22 I think) and is lasting months. It's so rich and efficient I barely need to use much at all. So it works out cheaper.

Sunscreen I love Boots Soltan Baby Sensitive SPF50. Doesn't clog my pores, works well as a makeup primer, feels nice on the skin and is a couple of quid.

Saurus72 · 06/03/2015 20:01

I really like the Boots Botanics range - I use the toner and the bi-phase eye make up remover, both cost a couple of pounds and are often on 3 for 2. I can't comment on the cleanser/moisturiser from that range as I use La Roche Posay Effaclar, but I can't see them being bad, it's a very reliable range.

I know you didn't ask about hair care, but I'm going to tell you anyway, as I am completely obsessed with Superdrug Coconut & Almond shampoo and conditioner, which costs about £2.50 for a really big bottle and is absolutely brilliant. I also really like Superdrug argan for hair, it's in a small brown brittle and lasts for months and months. Makes your hair really nice and shiny.

I don't mind paying a lot for things that do the job, but nothing is as satisfying as a genuinely brilliant, cheap as chips bargain. I love coming out of Superdrug with a big bag of lovely things for £10 Wink

Saurus72 · 06/03/2015 20:03

Bottle not brittle. Sheesh Hmm

Flambola · 06/03/2015 20:38

Superfacialist is good, I'm using the Vitamin C cleansing oil and I love it. Boots Botanics toner is great as well. And everything is 3 for 2 at the moment.

HollyBdenum · 06/03/2015 20:43

I used to use Dermalogica skincare which was expensive, but very good and lasted for ages. Now I use the oil cleansing method using avocado oil, with a bit of Aldi moisturiser which is cheap and even better than the Dermalogica.

TelephoneIgnoringMachine · 06/03/2015 20:55

Superfacialist Vitamin C oil for removing makeup. Lovely smell and quite moisturising.
I personally use La Roche Posay effaclar face wash - which isn't budget - as I have oily but very sensitive skin. It does go a long way though.
Loreal micellar water.
Superfacialist rose night cream.

Walkingonsunshine00 · 06/03/2015 22:01

Deep cleaning sensitive clean and clear lotion - it's my new found love Grin

yazzy85 · 06/03/2015 22:19

My skin is oily dehydrated and quite a few months ago I switched from clinique 3 step to other products and double cleansing and acid toners etc and my skin is so much better now. I don't have a big budget either.

Cleanser - Soap and Glory Peaches and Clean as my first wash to remove makeup. Followed by La Roche Posay Effaclar Wash.

Toner - Pixi Glow Tonic, big bottle for about £18, most expensive out of the routine but its amazing and I haven't found a cheaper better glycolic toner.

Serum - Soap and Glory Make Yourself Youthful

Moisturiser - Either Effaclar H if my skin is dry that day or Vichy Normaderm Anti-Ageing. Both of these can be used at.night because no spf in either.

Suncreams - Soap and Glory BB cream spf 25, its clear/translucent so can be used in place of moisturiser.

The Soap and Glory, Vichy, La Roche Posay stuff is often on offer at Boots so they work out quite a bit cheaper and I stock up when they are 3 for 2.

SASASI · 06/03/2015 23:04

Yazzy our skin type sounds similar, think I will copy a few of your products & give them a go!

yazzy85 · 06/03/2015 23:32

Good Luck SASASI. Hopefully you can put together a good routine that works well with your skin Smile

TenuousGrip · 07/03/2015 14:11

I've got sensitive skin that's prone to becoming very dry and scaly, I picked up this from waitrose over christmas and really like it, my skin's in much better condition than it was this time last year (not great at face care - it's the only thing I use!).

Lardylassnomore · 07/03/2015 15:40

I use Boots £1.50 face wash from the essentials range. Does the job in the morning and I then use superdrug vitamin e hot cloth cleanser at the end of the day

Kundry · 07/03/2015 16:19

Cetaphil cleanser, anything La Roche Posay, Avene or Vichy - not the most budgety products but last a long time and work.

My Paula's Choice BHA lotion was £18 but lasted about 8 months of being used twice a day and amazing for oily skin with blackheads.

Even cheaper option which is brilliant for acids is SR Skincare - was recommended on the peel thread a while ago. I've used their salicylic acid peel once a week for months now, no sign of running out, £7.70 and far cheaper than any acid every recommended by Caroline Hirons. Have also liked serums and moisturisers from them.

piercedprincess · 08/03/2015 01:30

Astral is a lighter and easier to apply alternative to Nivea and is great for a super intensive night moisturizer. Sweet almond oil is the best and least irritatiing thing I have ever found to remove eye make up and as an added bonus it improves crepey skin and wrinkles around the eye area.

Cold cream to cleanse. Rosewater makes a great, alcohol free and super cheap toner. Garnier Essentials Hydrating Day Care Cream is a total bargain at around £2-£4 for a pot and contains extract of rose so really calming and good for your skin, sinks in well and I can vouch that it's great under foundation unless you have super oily skin but be warned, it doesn't contain any SPF. I also break open and use an evening primrose oil capsule for a facial massage sometimes.

Some of the Montague Jeunesse facial masks (you know the ones that come in the colourful sachets) are lovely, I love the Strawberries and Cream one, I find the natural fruit acids in it really exfoliate my skin well and I like the creamy texture and the gorgeous smell. The Blemish Mud from that range is great too.

Carmex for lips or lypsyl. Oh and don't forget to check out TK Maxx, you can get high end brands for high street prices there, including many French skincare brands. And also, check the monthly mags for free gift giveaways, frequently you can catch a bargin there too. This month Glamour mag are giving away a lovely facial mask by Balance Me, the mag only costs £2 and I believe the product is worth around £8.
