Reasonably priced foundation for dry but spot prone skin

I normally have oily skin but am on roaccutane so my skin is quite dry but annoyingly I'm still getting a few spots. My foundation for oily skin is pilling and not sitting right. I'm scared of using foundations for dryer skin in case that causes spots. Normally I buy clinique or Estée Lauder but don't want to spend those prices on what might be a short term issue so looking at about £10 or less for the budget. I need a fairly good coverage.

Does anyone have any recommendations please? Smile

Have you tried max factor facefinity?
It is 12.99 so slightly over budget but often on offer.
I have bad skin too and get on with it relatively well. It does cling to dry bits somewhat but I have never found one that does not do that.

How is the roaccutane going? Will you tell me about it?

Best budget foundation I've tried is the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum. Good price and lovely texture that tends to be more forgiving on drier areas of combi-skin.

Justjuan - it's my fourth course of roaccutane so it's just giving me respite really. It's reasonably effective but I still get the odd cyst especially if I mess with my skincare.

Thanks both for the recommendations. Had wondered about the bourjois one. Had also thought about the new maybelline one as it's on offer at the moment.

I have started using retin a. I have been lucky and no irritation. However there are dry flaky patches where spots are drying up. I second bourjois. It going on lovely. Much better than a lot of pricier foundations.

This one. I normally use YSL or EL, but this one is really nice

Vichy Dermablend, they stock it in boots. It's very good and you only need a smidgen to get excellent coverage. Use a little bit of powder with it as it can make your noise look a bit shiny, but it's fab stuff.

Brilliant, will check these suggestions out next time I get to boots. Thanks.

I have cystic acne and dry skin.

I use vichy Derma blend as a concealer as the colours are crappy.

I have recently switched from Clinique foundation to cheap Rimmel Match Perfection. It is very moisturising but you will need a powder on top to set it. It is the only foundation that suits my colouring and doesn't dry me out that doesn't cost a small fortune.

It isn't great coverage but I put on a couple of layers then use either the derma blend foundation of spots or corrector stick on top all over, then powder. I get great coverage that way.

If the derma blend foundation suits your colouring then that alone is all you will need as it is very moisturising as well, but the colour choice for me was crappy and made to too orange.

justjuanmorebeer · 03/03/2015 22:22

I found dermablend totally orange too. Shame they don't do more shades

I used the LRP alternative to Dermablend and Revlon Colorstay and was happy with the coverage - my skin is very pale. But I switched to mineral foundation and my breakouts are gone. So that's an alternative to consider too.

coffeenut · 04/03/2015 06:20

Which mineral one Frugal? Liquid or powder?

I use Revlon colorstay and have found it is the best acne-wise for me (but can look a little grey). I get cystic acne with almost every other cheap foundation.

Househunter · 04/03/2015 07:08

Yes, using revlon colorstay which I have loved previously but it's not right at the moment. Though I do have the formulation for oily skin and I know they do one for dryer skin too. Have also used mineral foundation (Lily Lolo) but again it doesn't blend well over the dryer bits.

Yep House the dry bits drove me crazy too (Colorstay always accentuated them, I only used the dry skin type) and they could be problematic with mineral foundation. I use the powdery type. Eucerin 5% urea helped a bit with flaky skin.

I've found that various oils in cosmetics trigger my acne, and olive oil in food too (I love dipping bread in olive oil but that seems to wreck my skin). Phasing out liquid foundation and sticking to a minimum in moisturizers has helped enormously (this in turn meant switching cleansers as the really astringent ones parched my skin: I've bound a good balance with micellar water and black soap). Good luck OP, perhaps the Dermablend type foundation could be a good interim solution, hope your skin will get better soon!
