I want to be able to do eyeliner flicks. Please point me in the direction of foolproof products and tips!

I've been doing the same eye make- up for 20 years - brown eyeshadow applied on one of those flat edged brushes underneath my lower lashes.

I fancy a change now so I've tried a couple of products and attempted to do some flicks but I ended up looking like a toddler drawing! Shock

So please let me know about any easier products to use or good tutorials because the vids I've watched on YouTube made me want to bite myself they were so full of waffle and unnecessary twattery.

I've tried the Avon gel pencil thing (the line seemed too fat) and also a (Revlon?) felt tip style pen (dragged my 40yr old eye skin).

I'd particularly like something less inclined to have smudged by the end of a night out.

Tip 1: Go into a hobby shop and buy the tiniest, thinnest, pointiest paintbrush you can find. Literally 1 cm in length. When used with gel liner it gives a much thinner and more elegant line than with eyeliner brushes.

Tip 2: get two pieces of Sellotape. Press on forearm a couple of times to get the excess stickiness off. Place at side of eyes at perfect matching angles. Apply eyeliner. Peel off Sellotape. Voila! Two lovely sharp symettrical flicks.

Sellotape, really?? Brilliant! Grin

I use DP's collar stiff things as a ruler!

And liquid liner or gel for flicks. Pencil/crayon is fine for kids but too thick for flicks!

tethersend · 27/02/2015 16:33

My friend uses stickers

goodasitgets · 27/02/2015 17:30

Two minute no waffle YouTube video!
Practice, practice, a good angled brush

Moln · 27/02/2015 17:33

Eye lid first deffo. To do the flick follow on up from your lower part of your eye

ok this explains it better than I can

misog2000 · 27/02/2015 17:39

I use Rimmel Glam Eyes which is a brush and liquid rather than a pen liner, it's the only one I can use. I make sure there is plenty of liner on the brush then do my eyelid in one sweep (left eyelid easier as I'm left handed).

LowLevelBlinging · 27/02/2015 18:15

STICKERS?? oh my word!

This is all good stuff, thanks guys

There are some you tube vids that use a credit card as a template, not tried it myself but I imagine it would be pretty foolproof

GingerLDN · 27/02/2015 20:54

Benefit gel eyeliner is amazing for cat flicks. Pixiwoo on youtube is great for tutorials.

Mintyy · 27/02/2015 20:57

Are you sure?

All the people I know with flicky up eyeliner in real life are under 16.

goodasitgets · 27/02/2015 21:26

31 here and I wear it every day!

Over 16 and 31 here and have flicks

FlossieTreadlight · 27/02/2015 22:03

38 and have flicks Grin

Highly recommend the collection 2000 extreme eyeliner pen. Goes on easily, lasts well and is only a couple of quid so if you don't like it you haven't wasted much cash.

My top tip would be to do your eyelid first and then draw the flick, drawing down to meet the eyelid line.

Flambola · 27/02/2015 22:10

i think a flick looks better when you tightline as well.

milkysmum · 27/02/2015 22:17

35 and love a flickWink

raspberrywhitechocolate · 27/02/2015 22:25

I do the sellotape thing too. I follow the line from the corner of my eye to the end of my eyebrow. Draw a line up there, then the other line of the flick, then line the rest of the eye, and 'colour' it all in. I use Master Precise (think it's maybelline) it's like a pen and the easiest to use that I've used (and I've tried a LOT)

raspberrywhitechocolate · 27/02/2015 22:28

Just realised that reads as if I draw the whole line from my eye to my eyebrow Confused I don't obviously, just apparently that's the right angle for the flick to be at.

MsRaspberryJam · 28/02/2015 07:24

You need to make sure that you always rest your elbows on a hard surface. It's harder when you do the opposite eye to your dominant hand, but try sitting at a table with a shaving mirror.

Keep practicing. You can learn this!

FreeButtonBee · 28/02/2015 07:40

There is a sali Hughes tip which involves drawing a dot with a brown eyeliner pencil on each side as something to aim for. Was b good (when I had time and energy for such thjngs...)
