I have large pores, and deep forehead wrinkles, generally a bit dull complexion but not wrinkly. What do you think? I was going to get some of the benefit primer but not sure about the foundation?

Clarins loose powder - even I can't screw it up!!! Grin

QueenofLouisiana · 25/02/2015 20:26

I'm coming up for 39 and I gave just bought Bare Minerals liquid foundation and primer. Primer smooths and evens skin tone, foundation covers with a couple of drops.

Quite pleased really.

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/02/2015 20:31

Bare Minerals BareSkin.

Superworm · 25/02/2015 20:33

Bare minerals here too. Just switched and had reservations due to wrinkles and pores but I was wrong. Looks so much better.

Notmeagain1 · 25/02/2015 20:50

43 here and been using bare minerals for 10yrs. Wouldn't dream of switching to something else. I tried a knockoff mineral foundation, used it one time the bin got the rest. Learned quickly there is no comparison.

reikizen · 25/02/2015 20:55

Ok, bare minerals it is, thanks!

Clarins is my fave.

here

i have large pores, combination skin which is dry round my nose. I use this over my garnier BB cream. I put it on with dabs of my fingers, then blend with a brush.

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 25/02/2015 21:10

Tom Ford, the stick one. It is AMAZING, apply with a proper foundation brush. Also a good primer makes all the difference as it helps hide big pores before you apply the foundation Smile

BiancaDelRio · 25/02/2015 21:16

Hate to be the voice of dissent but I really really hate the Bare Minerals Bareskin. It applies awfully and just looks crap.

If you have a look at the reviews online you'll see I'm not alone.

My recs:

Lancome Photogenic Lumenessence (gorgeous)
Diorskin Forever Flawless
Clinique Even Better
YSL Touche Eclat
NARS Sheer Glow (if you're yellow toned)
Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow
Bourjois Healthy Mix (both the serum and the non serum - better than many high end foundations).

You can also mix a wee bit of an illuminating product (MAC Strobe Cream, Revlon Skin Lights, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector) into any foundation to give a radiant glow to dull skin.

Flambola · 25/02/2015 23:00

Nars Sheer Glow
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk

Dumpylump · 25/02/2015 23:07

I have tried Nars sheer glow and I really liked it, but I bought an Urban Decay Weightless liquid make up last week, along with the primer. I really rate it and a few people have passed comment on how good my skin is looking.......I'm a lot nearer to 50 than 40!

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/02/2015 23:07

You definitely need the brush with the BareSkin. I like the way you can build up coverage where you need it, with another dot of foundation, and it still looks natural.

I also have a Lierac foundation that is very good, and also use Filorga's BB cream from time to time.

McFox · 25/02/2015 23:10

I love YSL Touché Éclat, it makes my skin look luminous Smile Apply with a brush and use a primer.

Amethyst24 · 25/02/2015 23:14

YSL foundations are great, and I also love the Make-up Forever Photofinish, I think it's called.

BiancaDelRio · 25/02/2015 23:16

YY to Armani Luminous Silk. Love that one.

Amethyst my all time holy grail foundation is the Makeup Forever HD. It's so so good.

Flambola · 25/02/2015 23:28

Isn't there only one shop in the UK that sells MUF? I'm dying to try that foundation but I would prefer to be colour matched before splashing out online.

BiancaDelRio · 25/02/2015 23:45

Flam I think it was Guru Makeup Emporium?

Not sure if they do samples though. I blind bought mine from Sephora but only after doing hours of research on google comparing swatches with MAC etc. Luckily the shade I chose is perfect.

I'll be repurchasing as soon as, if not before, I run out. It's that good Grin .

I'm not a fan of BareSkin - it sits on the skin and just looks awful, gets shiny through the day and enhances pores, dry bits and everything else that isn't supposed to be enhanced. If using more than a few drops, it is so incredibly cakey on the face.

The brush costs a fortune (£24) and is a complete waste - you can use a Real Techniques brush (buffing/expert face brush at around £10) instead and get the same result. The Bare Minerals brush also is a pain to wash and I find mine is shedding after having used it around 5-10 times and washing it twice.

I'd suggest something like Mac Face & Body or Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide foundation - the LM one seems very similar to the BareSkin foundation, just without the massive amount of fail.
You don't even need to buy a brush to get these foundations to work.

You could also try a tinted moisturiser or Origins Vitazing.

I personally don't think that a too heavy coverage foundation will look flattering - it can look very aging, especially with the (usually) matte finish they have.

No matter what you go for, I really recommend asking for samples before buying to avoid wasting money on products that might not work for you.

MooMinCow · 26/02/2015 07:12

Make Up Forever is going to be launched at Debenhams in March /April I think. Not sure if there will be counters or just online only.

Picastyle · 26/02/2015 08:25

I hated BareSkin, it left a greasy sheen on my face but I'm a fan of their loose powder in the Summer as long as it's the matte version.

OP the things I've discovered you need to be clear about before you even try a foundation is what texture you're after, what coverage and what effect.

I don't mind powder or liquid but would prefer a compact, I like a medium coverage that lasts and I strive for a velvet finish rather than dewy because I have combination skin.

Clinique Even Better, Bare Minerals Matte mineral powder and Japonesque Velvet Touch are in my current library. I'm tempted to get the new Lancôme Miracle Cushion because as I mentioned my HG foundation is a sponge and compact for ease of application.

Good luck!

Amethyst24 · 26/02/2015 08:29

Guru do do samples - they are absolutely lovely and worth schlepping to Shepherd's Bush for. They charge £1 for a sample but it's a big 'un.

woodhill · 21/03/2015 22:54

I've just got YSL touche eclat but which foundation brush?
