Can NOT find eyeliner or mascara that dont cover my face with smudges

Pleeeease can anyone recommend to me a mascara AND an eyeliner that stay put and don't leave marks across your face.

I've currently got a Dior mascara and Dior eyeliner. The mascara creates a black line under my eyebrows where my top lashes meet the skin. I wipe it off and it happens over and over again. I can feel people staring at it when they're talking to me.

The Dior liquid eyeliner (without me touching my eyes at all- i'm very careful) just starts to create smudges and marks under my eyes and clearly seeps downwards after about 20 minutes of wearing. It means I have a black shadow above and below my eye and end up looking like I've been crying or been given a black eye.

I hardly ever notice any other women with this problem! I've tried Lancombe mascara before which was better and might go back to that. I previously had a Clinique kohl eyeliner which did the same and a Chanel liquid eyeliner which did exactly the same....,

I find that all normal and waterproof mascaras smudge on me, but tubing mascaras are really good and last all day on me.

The L'Oreal beauty tubes mascara in a red and white tube (one end is primer, the other is mascara) is very good. I'm not a fan of the primer bit though. It comes off with warm water.

Estee Lauder Double Wear mascara in the blue tube with the gold lid is also very nice. I do find it a bit difficult to remove but it's not a major issue for me.

There are other tubing mascaras on the market, Clinique has one and loads of other companies make them too.

For eyeliner, I use the Maybelline gel liner that comes in a small glass jar. I think it is packaged in a cardboard box with a pretty decent brush.

Setting eyeliner with powder can also help.

I sometimes just line my eyes with a push brush and a powder shadow. It doesn't work for cat eye flicks, but it does make the lashes look full and lines the eyes very nicely and looks natural - and it doesn't smudge like a liquid or gel liner can.

MrsMcGregor · 25/02/2015 18:35

eyeliner ... doesn't smudge or bleed, will come off when you want it too (!) and there's plenty of it for the ££. Space NK do it too.

EdnaGold · 25/02/2015 18:43

I'm going to ask a naive question, whats a tubing mascara?

I'm starting to think I need to be taught how to put eye make up on. When you're a teenager you just stare at other people and try to copy. Now I'm 33 and I'm still not sure how to do it. Silly isnt it?

On which subject, I've never used powder to line my eyes. Always just a kohl pencil or liquid eyeliner. I wouldnt even know how to use powder shadow to do it! Maybe there are youtube videos explaining such things? Any advice how to teach yourself how to do it?

I use the rimmel liquid eye liner. It's amazing and once set it's not shifting all day. It's cheap and works very well. I also use the lancome kohl for my lower lids and that's a really neat line too, but I wouldn't use it on my upper eyelids.

notnowImreading · 25/02/2015 20:29

Estée Lauder Double Wear Non-smudging mascara is the only one I've ever used that works.

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/02/2015 20:29

Clinique do an excellent no-smudge mascara but it doesn't build-up the lashes much.

They also do an eyeliner pencil that absolutely does not budge, no matter what you do.

itsbetterthanabox · 25/02/2015 20:32

I have greasy lids.
This works for me-
Use primer on your lids then an eyeshadow or just some face powder.
Then use a waterproof liquid eyeliner or felt tip eyeliner. And leave eyes closed until it dries fully.
For the lashes you need a tubing mascara. They do not smudge at all! No7 stay perfect in the gold tube is the best one I've used for a reasonable price.

Datahub · 25/02/2015 20:33

last week I was sold the Bobbi brown long wear gel eyeliner
its shit

the Double wear one is LOADS better - i love the graphite shade too

itsbetterthanabox · 25/02/2015 20:36

Oh tubing mascara are a completely different formula where they coat the lashes in like a plastic formula that shrinks around each lash. It doesn't react to grease as it isn't a paint like normal mascara so just doesn't smudge. When you want to remove it you massage your lashes just with warm water and the tubes slide off. It's magic!

Datahub · 25/02/2015 20:41

does it elongate the lashes tho

Judydreamsofhorses · 25/02/2015 21:52

Is it worth trying an eye primer? I have really greasy eyelids and find the Nars one excellent. Bomb proof, in fact. Ref mascara, Bobbi Brown do a double-ended one which has volumising mascara in one side (Extreme Party) and a sort of topcoat mascara in the other (No Smudge) and it's fantastic - quite pricey but definitely worth the investment.

Yes tubing mascaras do elongate well. They don't add a lot of volume however. I think it's worth it for how well they last, that it doesn't smudge and that its so easy to remove.
Also a lash primer underneath would add some thickness so would be worth a try.

LadyB49 · 25/02/2015 22:30

Avon glimmersticks eyeliner. Propelling pencil. It doesn't drag, easy to smudge. £6 plus delivery from Avon, but I buy it on eBay for about £2. Love it. They also do a great glimmersticks eyebrow pencil for blondes.

StrikesMatches · 25/02/2015 22:31

I have spent years on this quest, nothing stayed smudge free and tubing mascara ended up like a spider massacre on my cheeks.

In a fit of I don't know what, I absent mindedly picked up a liquid eyeliner at the till in Poundsaver of all places, and it's amazing. It's liquid, goes on easily send doesn't move. And on the recommendation of a previous thread here, I got the boots natural collection water guard mascara and between them, they have changed my afternoon panda eyes forever!

Annarose2014 · 25/02/2015 22:38

No7 have an inexpensive tubing mascara. Its the one in the gold tube. Does Not Budge. I always wore it during my 12 hour shifts as I could rely on it. Bit of a pain to remove mind you - you really need something with oil in it and its alarming to see thin wisps of mascara coming away. At first I thought it was my eyelashes!

The most non-budging non-smudging eyeliner I ever found was the Prestige Total Intensity one but then they disappeared out of Boots. Sad I'm down to a nub and am seriously considering buying some on Ebay.

Annarose2014 · 25/02/2015 22:41

Oh and as regards YouTube videos - search for Lisa Eldridge.

I've been watching her videos for years and learnt tons. She has lots of "beginner" type videos too and explains things really well.

........I may or may not also have a total girl-crush on her......

itsbetterthanabox · 25/02/2015 23:05

Annarose. The best way to remove tubing mascara is to gently massage your lashes with warm water either on your fingers, cotton wool or muslin cloth. After a few seconds they will slide off.
Oil doesn't dissolve tubing so it must just be you rubbing that's removing it. It's much easier with warm water.

Follyfoot · 25/02/2015 23:12

Another vote for the No. 7 mascara in the gold tube. A warm damp flannel left over your eyes for a few seconds will get it off straightaway. No need for make up remover.

Annarose2014 · 25/02/2015 23:30

So I've been removing it wrong? No wonder I always found it such a bugger to shift!

Datahub · 26/02/2015 07:31

aha it transpires i have HAD a tubing mascara Lancome doll eyes

I had no idea, was no different to others

EdnaGold · 26/02/2015 10:50

No 7 definitely sounding promising here.

I've tried a number of primers in the past, including one from Nars, and with my exceedly greasy eyes they also just crease up. Along with the eye shadow I put on top of them...

Annarose2014 · 26/02/2015 11:08

Get the Wet 'n Wild "Fergie" one on Ebay. Pretty cheap, and its far better than the others you can get here. All primers crease on me except this one. Its raved about in the States and with good reason, its perfect.

itsbetterthanabox · 26/02/2015 14:05

Annarose what primer did you use?
Urban decay is deemed the very best. Make sure it's specific eye primer not face primer.
So wipe of eyes and lashes with oil free makeup remover and allow to dry.
Apply primer lightly and tap in across whole eye area.
Apply powder or shadow.
Apply waterproof liquid eyeliner and keep eyes closed until it dries.
Put on tubing mascara.
Done!

Datahub · 26/02/2015 18:52

its only my RIGHT eye it smears on, the upper lid.
I think is to do with moisturiser which is best avoided in the morning
