Advice re Laser hair removal

I have been considering having laser hair removal for my underarms. I had always thought it was permanent but I've been told that it's not.
Does anyone have any experience?
How long does it last and what can I expect?

I'm about to have my last of an 8 course treatment on top lip and extended bikini. I'm very happy with the resist. Massively reduced hair growth, in fact, it's almost non existent. Being treated by Skin. Obviously don't know what the long term prospects are. If you have it just make sure you have laser and not IPL as they are very different and lots of clinics advertise laser hair removal when actually they are selling IPL

Hi OP . What I would say to you about laser hair removal is:-

  1. Firstly, research where you are going to have it done. There are different types of laser hair removal. My recommendation is that you use a salon which uses a medical grade laser machine.
  2. It is expensive between £60 and £100.00 per session.
  3. How many sessions you need depends on the coarseness of your hair.
  4. Laser works best on dark hair. A good therapist will offer you a consultation and be truthful about your chances of success.
  5. I have had facial laser hair removal with medical grade laser I think the machine is called Alexandrite ( not too sure) I have had three sessions at £60.00 per session and it is a great result.
  6. You will need maintenance but again how much maintenance and how often depends on you hair and it's rate of growth, and it's coarseness.
  7. You can experience irritation after treatment but an anti histamine will sort it out.
  8. When getting laser it is not painful it is slightly uncomfortable. It feels like tiny electric shocks.but you can take a painkiller before you go for a session.
  9. I would really recommend it.

Hope this helps ;-)

I had full leg, Brazilian and underarms done about 5 years ago. I think the laser was called Candella or something. It was the best at the time anyway. I'd heard IPL grew back quite quickly.
I was miserable with my hair growth, shaving my legs daily then getting rashes, in-growers from waxing etc.
Laser was a bloody marvel!
5-odd years later and it's still mostly gone.
The promised permanent reduction is true, and I've never had a top up since either.
I forget to check my underarms but a few paler hairs lurk from time to time. I just whip out the razor in the shower!
It's really worth doing IMO.

Thank you for the replies.
I have done quite a bit of research and it is definitely a medical grade laser and not IPL.
I am mixed race so was a bit wary as they never used to be able to do it on dark skin. I have booked on for a consultation and have to have a test area done. If no probs then I can have a full treatment, but she said it was not classed as permanent.
Thanks again for the advice. Very useful Smile
