A few years ago I went to my local house of fraser and had a perfume consultation(!) where I tried a range of different perfumes to find out the "type" of perfume I liked and suited me.
It came out with two I really liked, a Herve Leger perfume (in the wiggly bottle rather than the avon versions) and Angel by Thierry Muglar.

I've since had a baby (4 years ago) and neither smell right on me any more - probably a hormone thing - so I need to find a new perfume that smells OK. The perfume consultation place is long gone so I just feel a bit stuck. I'm happy to try out different ones but don't know where to start.

So, does anyone know of any similar perfumes to those I used to have that would be worth trying? I don't like anything too flowery, but apart from that I'll try anything Smile

I don't think you can go far wrong with a Chanel perfume. My personal favourite is coco mademoiselle... You can smell it when you walk back into the room if that makes sense.

Also, love the understated design of the bottle. Hint, hint DP I'm running low Grin

Yes, you can go wrong with Chanel perfume.
You can go wrong with any perfume house.

I haven't met a Chanel perfume I like.

Shalimar! I love it.

I've also been looking for a new fragrance lately and not sure what I like. I've ordered quite a few miniatures and fragrance samples from a few more exclusive houses. I've particularly enjoyed some of the Dali perfumes, and also the Penhaligon and Artisan Parfumeur sample boxes.

Seconding the sample set idea - Serge Lutens, Miller Harris, ELDO and Juliette Has A Gun all do sets which are great value, and all of the above bar MH offer the cost of the sample set redeemed against a full bottle. Les Senteurs will send samples by post for a charge and they have some lovely, unusual fragrances.

I'll bet you've gone into the "post-baby; citrus perfumes only" zone. It happens to lots of us. It passes - but it can last a couple of years!
You need to try some perfumes and see if that's what is going on.
If you go to a department store and try the Dior"escalier" range, "o" by Lancôme, "eau Dynamisme" by Clarins, and then decide these are the only perfumes you can wear - you are in "the zone".
Otherwise, I completely agree with the posters suggesting you try some sample sets. Choosing a new perfume is fun! But do see if it's the post-baby perfume-intolerance thing first.
