Anyone had a 12 week/Brazilian blow dry?

If so, could you tell me if you think it was worth it? I have long, thick slightly frizzy hair which I always straighten with GHDs.

Before shelling out on the Brazilian blow dry I thought I'd canvas opinions here.

Thanks

Shameless bump for the post-lunch crowd.

Think I'll post this on chat later.

Hi I have shoulder frizzy hair and used to wash and use babyliss big hair. I have serious frizz issues. I got a Brazilian blow dry and loved it- it's reduced the frizz but I still need to blow dry/straighten. But it takes much less time and looks so much better!
I have tried them Amazon one that everyone on here raves about- but wasn't that impressed,

Aridane · 22/02/2015 18:44

It's good - but not permanent. It will de frizz but not wholly straighten.

Yes your hair coloured or otherwise chemcially treated? If not, you might want to consider the truly amazing ultra expensive permanent straightening.

Ainmnua · 22/02/2015 19:13

Thank you both.

Yes my hair is coloured - I have to cover the grey every five weeks or so.

I have used the of the Kertin Kits blow dry kits from Amazon to do my own brazillian blow dry.

It does reduce the frizz massively, and if I want mostly straight hair after washing I only have to blast it with a hair dryer rather than dry then straighten.

My hair is chin length bob and is prone to curls and frizz.

However, it only lasts about 6-8 weeks on me, depending on how often I wash my hair.

emwithme · 22/02/2015 19:24

Yes, in fact I had it done about 10 days ago (thanks Groupon!)

The top bit of my hair is stupidly frizzy and doesn't behave itself at all, and it turns that into relatively normal-behaving hair for a while. By which I mean I don't have to spend weeks straightening it and can just wash and wear and it looks like other people's rather than me resembling the bastard offspring of Crystal Tipps and Dougal from the Magic Roundabout. If I do straighten it, it looks fabulous.

SparklyReindeerShit · 22/02/2015 19:36

Yes and it was crap, made no difference. I buy a permanent straightening kit off amazon that works amazingly and do it myself

AesopsMables · 22/02/2015 23:31

I have mine done 2 times a year it lasts 6 months and is glossy and smooth. I colour my hair every 5 weeks also, as long as you wait a week either before or after your Brazilian you can colour too.

Where are you based? if you are near London I can recommend a great little salon in Covent Garden that charges £69 for hair up to shoulders or £79 for longer hair.

munchkinmaster · 22/02/2015 23:36

I used to have this done, first time in 2010. Over the years they have banned more and more chemicals (because they were dangerous or something!) but they made my hair so straight.

I am not keen on the new health and safety blow dry. I need to find a backstreet blow dryer who still peddles the strong stuff!

Sark · 22/02/2015 23:47

Is it ok to swim after having the treatment? Sorry to butt in but i am thinking of having it done too.

Ainmnua · 23/02/2015 06:42

Thanks all. Great feedback.

I'm not in London. I'm actually in Guernsey - are you in Sark, Sark?

Ainmnua · 23/02/2015 12:29

munchkin health and safety isn't as stringent over here so I could probably get the full formaldehyde! Maybe you could build your next holiday around guernsey hairdressers Grin

I've not had it done but my sister has and her curly hair was in much better condition for it.

However, would a series of protein and smoothing treatments do the trick?

Whatever you do- I think its success depends upon the skills of the person who applies it!

nochocolateforlentteacake · 23/02/2015 12:39

I'm sorry
I'm childish...
I have to say it...
I apologise in advance...

Makes me think of a carefully coiffured pubic hair-do!

lurkingfromhome · 23/02/2015 12:43

Didn't make much difference at all. I have terrible hair that is a total ball of frizz at the slightest whiff of damp. I've had it done a few times with miminal benefits.

What does work, though, is the ultra-cheap hair relaxing kits designed for afro hair that you can buy in Boots for a fiver. I use these every few months and for a fraction of the price of a keratin treatment they actually keep my frizz completely under control (and don't knacker my hair).

nochocolateforlentteacake · 23/02/2015 12:56

My hair is very dry (as is my scales p) and extremely frizzy. And fine and thin. I gave all the luck!

I've used the keratin kits off Amazon too, although not since last summer. The first time I did it was great, then each time it was not quite as good and didn't last quite as long, hence giving it a break. I think I'll give it another go in a couple of months though. Being able to just wash and rough dry my hair, and have it looking reasonable is brilliant.

Aridane · 23/02/2015 17:32

AesopsMables - yes please to the cheap Covent Garden place details!

ChowNowBrownCow · 23/02/2015 22:30

Aesopesmabels- me to please for the details of the. Covent garden one!

AgathaF · 24/02/2015 10:48

Could I have the Covent Garden details too please?

AesopsMables · 24/02/2015 21:39

Hi All

The salon is called Alterity. Just call them and book saying you have been recommended by 'a friend' but make sure they confirm the prices.

Been going there for nearly 2 years and paid the same every time, lovely results Smile

Never had a cut or colour there as I have my own hairdresser that I have used for 13 years who is very expensive and hard to book. Even she says my hair is fabulous after it has been done!!

Enjoy that extra 20 minutes you have in the morning all Grin

Aridane · 25/02/2015 14:29

Thanks for giving the details. I think you may be on to a v good deal with Alterity as their website says

Keratin Blow Dry ( Brazilian Blow Dry) 250.00

  • though general googling indicates that in the past they have done 69 via Groupon...

Will see what deal I can get next time I go for a Brazlilian blowdry
