Grown ups in dungarees

Are these something you can wear over the age of 3 and if you're not a Rainbow presenter?

No. But a jumpsuit/boiler suit can work if glammed up (statement flat sandals/mini cross the body bag/great choker...)

chanie44 · 20/02/2015 07:24

I had maternity dungarees and am totally unrepentant.

littlesupersparks · 20/02/2015 07:27

Oh I love them - I have seen some on a Pull and Bear advert and they are awesome. However, my husband would laugh for def and as with most fashion items I'm guessing I wouldn't get away with them - if I was more tall/willowy I would wear a slim fit pair over a cropped vest top (great way to wear cropped top IMO as you don't see the front of your belly, just the more flattering side bits) and one side undone. Bottoms rolled up and converse.

This summer deffo a no no unless bf twins makes the weight drop off uber quick!!! Next year maybe when we go to a festival even though they aren't the easiest in festival loos lol

littlesupersparks · 20/02/2015 07:28

I have a short flowery play suit that is dungarees style and I think I just about get away with it.

50ShadesOfSummer · 20/02/2015 07:35

There was a thread about this recently and they really seem to divide opinion. I'm in the Pro camp. I also have a dungaree style playsuit. It's great in the summer/on holiday. And I second littlesuper's comment about crop tops.

100sanemum · 20/02/2015 07:41

I'll try and find other thread. I do see flowery, short play suits look good. I could also see a willowy 20 year old in a crop top and dungarees. I just can't see a thirty-something on a school run looking good in full on denim dungarees!

That's my thought too 100sanemum :-( I'm only 5'4'' although usually fairly slim (when not hugely pregnant) but I'm not sure I could do it. I still might though - if I'm slim enough for summer - I have maternity leave to wear them in after all!!

ZaraW · 20/02/2015 07:45

I think some people can get away with them, they look ok on the v. young and tanned with cropped top and probably at a festival

littlesupersparks · 20/02/2015 07:48

www.pullandbear.com/gb/en/woman/dungarees-and-jumpsuits-c1073503.html#/5350907/LONG%20DENIM%20DUNGAREES

I like these but prefer a lighter wash. I think someone older could deffo still carry it off but fear that it still suits the tall and slim better :-( I may look young for my age but I will never look willowy!!

I love everything on pull and bear even though I am way too old for it!!

KERALA1 · 20/02/2015 07:49

I thought not until I saw a woman at a networking thing she looked brilliant she had a scarf round her head too and looked sort of ww2. But she is one of those effortlessly cool women

SoupDragon · 20/02/2015 07:49

Personally, I think dungarees and jump/play suits only work if you are thin.

Or pregnant.

itsaysonthetin · 20/02/2015 08:13

I'm turning thirty soon, size 10 and 5 foot 9.

I still think I would look like a total pillock in dungarees.

I think they only look good on:

  • Teenagers and people in their early twenties who could wear anything with the sort of brazen lack of embarrassment that comes with youth.
  • People who you would describe as "artistic" or "alternative" who are always rocking unusual outfits
  • People who work in the fashion industry, who would happy start walking around with dead pigeons stuck on their heads if Oscar de la Renta stuck a nametag on them and started selling them for 15k each. But more than that, would look at common folk in derision should they not "get it".

I have to say I have met a few people who worked in high fashion, and they always seem to be wearing the most fucking bizarre outfits, but their faith in whatever they are wearing means that they seem to pull it off.

honeypie10 · 20/02/2015 08:18

I actually distanced myself from an ex friend who would wear her dungarees constantly (I worried that she actualy wore them to bed she had them on that much).

She wore them with a peasant top underneath and an old massive baggy, bobbled cable knit cardigan with her embroidered tribal design rope bag.

She was more a wannabee hippy than an actual hippy and just couldnt pull it off.

I know the creative types who can wear them though and they look fab but other than that I dont even like them on children.

OOAOML · 20/02/2015 08:19

I may be lowering the tone here, but aren't they really awkward to go to the loo in? Especially if pregnant.

I am short, large of bust and tubby. I think the look is def. not for me.

overmydeadbody · 20/02/2015 08:32

littlesuperstars Pull and Bear is my favourite shop too, such lovely stuff!

I could not pull off dungarees though.

WagonWheel · 20/02/2015 09:53

My personal opinion is if you have to ask don't wear them. Carrying something off whatever your age means being comfortable and confident in it, meaning you don't give a shit what anyone else might think. I am 5'9 and a size 8. Fuck me heels look good on me (I'm told) but I would never wear them because they make me feel like a drag queen. However, I have been known to wear dungarees, and all manner of other things my OH and my 9 yr old have "disapproved" off without batting an eyelid because they fit in with my perception of what my personal sense of style is. One of my closest friends was outright rude about a pair of my favourite jeans the other day and I simply laughed and got on with it.

Having said that dungarees and playsuits, both, are hell to get out of when you need the loo, especially as I am normally wearing a jacket over the top of them so for that reason they don't figure largely in my own wardrobe.

If you like them, wear them.

littlesupersparks · 20/02/2015 09:57

:-) 5'9" and a size 8 I would already have several pairs I reckon - they would totally fit with my sense of who I am if that makes sense... I'm getting converted here even despite the naysayers :-)

Pregnant? Nooo - I would look like a telly tubby right now!

Pull and Bear keeps putting lovely stuff on my news feed that I can't even think about at the moment and I am going to need all scoop necks and v necks for bf soon.

flipchart · 20/02/2015 10:43

I didn't realise there was Pull and Bear int he UK!
I've seen loads across Europe but none here!

littlesupersparks · 20/02/2015 10:49

There's one in Bristol. We first went in Dublin and then Spain but so excited when they opened in Bristol! We are hardly ever there though :-(

WagonWheel · 20/02/2015 10:51

There's at least one in London: at Westfield, Stratford. It's pretty big, too.

flipchart · 20/02/2015 11:02

I live in East Lancashire and have only been to London for two days in my whole life.

I'll have to find out if there is one near me! I do like there stuff.

StellaAlpina · 20/02/2015 12:01

I really like denim dungaree type dresses. I've never bought one though as I' not sure I could pull it off. I do have a flowery playsuit I wear in the summer though.

leedy · 20/02/2015 12:45

I'm 42, have just bought a pair of denim dungarees and actually really like them...

JudgeRinderSays · 20/02/2015 12:49

Denim dungaree shorts are fine I think on the slim!
Otherwise only as workwear if you are a painter and decorator, gardener etc

IHaveBrilloHair · 20/02/2015 12:53

I have denim shorts one, just for casual summer mooching with converse or ash trainers.
