Bra intervention

I'm currently wearing a 40D bra fitted by M&S (I know...) and the band is rising up a lot at the back so I measured myself and got 34.5 underband 45 over which gives me about a 34GG/H?

However, even when I scoop (fairly vigorously) my current bra is only slightly small in the cups (no overspill/ quadboob) and a GG would be like going up 3 cups so I am a bit worried it is going to be too big.
Current bra is non wired and not padded (www.marksandspencer.com/total-support-non-wired-embroidered-b-g-bra/p/p22141338?mfPartNumber=T337020&carousel=FUNH_RR) so may be a bit more 'forgiving' than some styles.

Any suggestions on sizing and how to pick a comfortable style, as I have never had a wired bra I could wear for more than about an hour, would be very much appreciated Smile

Going down band sizes will make the cups seem smaller in proportion so give it a try and see.

The up a cup down a band thing only really works for about one size, it doesn't really work to count from 40 to 34 Grin

Another way to think about it is that your 40D is designed for someone who measures 44 overbust, which isn't so crazy really.

Wearing non wired will also be distorting as they hide a multitude of sins!

I;d suggest starting with the 34GG and working from there. It is going to feel snug given you are going from a 40. In terms of finding comfortable wires, half the battle is the right size. The other is looking at your breast shape

-are they fuller on top, or on the bottom?
-how wide are they i.e. how far round under your arms does the breast tissue go?
-are they quite firm or soft?
-how close together are they in the centre?
-are they quite high up your body?

  • fairly equal top and bottom
  • quite wide
  • firm
  • they start off fairly close, about 1cm apart but they do splay out somewhat
  • fairly low down but I do have a fairly short torso

I'd like to go into a shop to try some on as I'm not really in a position to order lots online at once, but I'm not sure which shops are best. No bravissimos nearby unfortunately, but I could get to a Leia.

Does anyone know whether their fitting service is any good, and if they have a range of sizes/styles?

Leia are pretty good, but they only stock certain brands as they're the retail arm of Eveden/Wacoal - who make Freya, Fantasie etc. However, for relatively wide breasts with a naturally splayed shape they are quite possibly going to be the brand for you anyway!

I haven't tested their fit service, but I'd expect them to have a clue. If they immediately add 4, give up and do it yourself! It's normally the fastest way to spot it!
