Do they work? My hair just barely grows. Is it just stuff for balding men?
Am desperate for long longer locks.

What you see..your hair.. is dead..made of of protein and keratin. The only live bit is the follicles which are firmly deep in your scalp, and frankly massaging anything into the surface of your head is pointless (except that it feels nice)

So no, spending a couple of minutes massaging any shampoo into your hair is not going to make any difference. It won't work for balding men either... !
Only Minoxidil has proven results... mostly in reducing loss in men (and women) with male pattern baldness.

If you are not getting enough nutrients however, this will effect your hair as the follicles will be losing out. There are plenty of supplements (for example brewer's yeast tablets.. good old Vit B) which are good if you are lacking .

But no, sorry..shampoo does NOT work. Tis a lovely marketing con!

Could try castor oil? Works on eyebrows and eyelashes so don't see why it wouldn't work on head hair.

Biotin is also supposed to be helpful in helping hair grow.

If you actually have a bald patch I doubt either of those suggestions would work as it would be an internal issue. My OH uses growganics shampoo for a small bald patch and it's totally gone so that might be worth a try...

what do you mean "it's totally gone". This could be important :)

I find Nioxin works quite well. I feel I have more hair, as it seems to be thicker.

My daughter used it for ages and no difference. I just got some sea kelp tablets and they're already helping. And much cheaper (valupak on eBay, seller is a chemist, £2.99 I think). You're advised to consult your doctor before taking them in case they lower the efficacy of any other meds you're on.

I've been taking sea kelp too, and noticed a difference with both my hair and nails.

MistressDeeCee · 18/02/2015 10:59

Brewers Yeast & Sea Kelp. Also sprinkling flaxseed onto your food as often as possible.

Well my husband has started using alpecin and his hair is definitely thicker and has stopped falling out. The hairdresser agrees and so does the plug hole! It hasn't made new hair grow though just prevented the falling out.

Aveda do a range, I think it's called Invati or something but Alpecin is much cheaper.

I have very thin very fine hair and hate it. I have started taking MSM supplements bought from Amazon due to sea kelp been a no go as I'm on thyroid meds. My hair feels healthier and not a lot of loss on my hairbrush.

specialsubject · 18/02/2015 12:08

no evidence for any of this. Obviously nothing rubbed on dead hair will make any difference. Very little alters your personal follicle activity except pregnancy or illness.

eat properly, and be aware that there are reported unpleasant side effects with sea kelp.

MistressDeeCee · 18/02/2015 18:24

I know what works for me as opposed to the difference when I don't take it. Id like to think people are actually sensible enough to stop eating or taking something if it makes them feel ill etc. You can find issues with any number of foodstuffs or supplements if you care to look anyway, doesn't stop us eating. So good luck to all those who have found something that keeps their hair intact Smile

My hair thickened up and grew faster when I started taking krill oil supplements. I take them to help my creaky joints, the change in my hair is just a happy side-effect.
