So I've just had a breast reduction (h to a c, as far as I can tell - still a bit swollen). I've always had to buy ugly bras because of needing so much support. Now I have high, round firm boobs! For the first time in my life I'm excited about underwear shopping... Tell me where to buy great c cup bras. Which ones are the best? What should I look out for? I'm normal height and a size 10. I'm a skinny jeans and leather jacket type. Thanks in advance!

Hey Thinkingofholidays I too have just had a BR, going from a 30G to a (I think) 30C or D - unsure, super swollen and boobs so high I crick my neck looking at them! How are you holding up? I'm 4 days post op now and have managed to knock lots of the painkillers on the head (today at least)
I know how you feel about the bra shopping excitement. I've tried on 3 different tops today - so nice to see my ribcage!

Kleptronic · 17/02/2015 19:30

StatisticallyChallenged I want to thank you. I went from 36B with aching breasts, strap slippage and raised central gore to a wonderfully supported bosom with no pain in a 34DD. Am a size 12. Thank you, from the centre of my norks Grin

LaCerbiatta · 17/02/2015 20:45

I don't want to offend, I know this is a sensitive issue specially because you've helped so many women, but it just gets so annoying how it's said over and over again (and twice on this thread alone) that if you're a size 10 you're most likely not a 34 or even a 32. And hardly ever anyone says that actually if you're very slim you may well be a size 10 and a 32 or 34.

Ihearthickson · 17/02/2015 20:50

New Look do some nice cheap and cheerful bra sets.

treaclesoda · 17/02/2015 20:56

Am I really missing something here, but M&S say that a size 10 dress size is a 34 inch bust. So if someone is 34 under the bust, and then add a few inches on top for the actual boobs, how would they be a size 10?

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/02/2015 20:59

But that statement - "if you are a size 10 you're most likely not a 34" - is a true one. It's not impossible, but it's unusual. Correctly fitted, most size 10 women will be less than a 34. So it is "most likely".

If I had to try and put a figure on it, I'd say that probably at least 90% of the women I've helped who are a size 10, would be less than a 34 band.

balletgirlmum · 17/02/2015 21:01

The 34 bust for a size 10 is overbust measurement not around the ribcage.

I'm size 12 & measure 31 under & 36 over

Dd is age 13 & a size 6. She measures 28 under & 31 over

balletgirlmum · 17/02/2015 21:03

I used to be a 34B incorrectly plus 5 measured.

I'm actually 32 D/DD (I measure 30 DD but have sized up due to being fairly slender/ it feeling more comfortable).

LaCerbiatta Shock

I think the fact that the vast majority of women are wearing the wrong size, and that M and S measure wrongly means that all the lovely intervention work on here can only be a good thing! And they always say things like 'as a starting point'. Fwiw I am slim with no back fat and still went from a 34B to a 30D using this method, give or take a bit, I measure 28 but felt too restricted so 30 suits me best. Really the vast majority of women, virtually everyone needs to go down in back size and up in cup size - it's only you and maybe one or two others who have ever railed against it. Keep up the good work interventionists and don't stop pointing out unlikely sizes!

iwantgin · 17/02/2015 21:03

I'm generally in a size 12/14 top, quite athletic yet sturdy but I now comfortably wear 32E bras.
my boobs don't look like they would be an E. Marks and Spencer measure me as 36C.?

thinkingofholidays · 17/02/2015 21:36

Thanks lacerbiata - if I'm honest I did feel a bit jumped on here. Go lightly, all good, one of the best things I've done I think. Feel slimmer, straighter and like I no longer have to pretend I don't hate having big boobs. It just wasn't for me.
Thanks for all the underwear tips, I'm off this thread now, I didn't realise how controversial asking for a few shopping tips could be!
Thanks again.

I'm a 10 and a 34. I remember a few years ago trying, on recommendation, going down to a 32 and up a cup size. Oh the pain. The fit was so tight and the cups enormous!

These are all I wear. They are cheap and very flattering.

I'm definitely a C cup in these. The smaller band in a D was agony.

LaCerbiatta · 18/02/2015 11:52

This is what I mean, when posters like Ballroom (with the added bonus of a shocked face…) jump in to say that “virtually everyone needs to go down in back size” when it’s just not true. Funny that I’m the one accused of being non-factual!!

And just to clarify, I have not railed against it (and I doubt there’s only 3 of us – again talk about factual statements!). I read the website, took my measurements accordingly, came here for advice on which sizes to try based on those measurements, tried them, and after being in agony with my back cut in half for a whole day I gave up and went back to my perfectly fitting and comfortable 34B. It just didn’t work for me. And as I’m not by any means a freak of nature with a weird shaped torso and breasts, I’m just slim with broad shoulders, I doubt I’m the only one who it doesn’t work for.

Why not admit it just doesn't work for everyone instead of being all militant and aggressive about it??

Bunbaker · 18/02/2015 12:02

I agree that M and S bras are great for people with my build (32B).

Like LaCerbiatta I have no back fat or under arm boobage with nothing to scoop. I measure 29" underbust, but find a 30 back way too tight, and couldn't even contemplate a 28" back.

PrimalLass · 18/02/2015 12:10

To be fair I was buying a 38B before, so I did remeasure and go down a back size. I am big boned though, with a big ribcage.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/02/2015 12:40

The one being militant and aggressive is you

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/02/2015 12:52

Bunbaker, I'm pretty sure I remember your initial intervention and us discussing what a good bra feels and looks like. The whole point is not to blindly follow the tape measure but to learn what good looks and feels like. And your size did change I think?

Bunbaker · 18/02/2015 13:08

Yes it did, and I am very grateful to you. I went from a 34A to a 32B and now have a more feminine silhouette.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/02/2015 13:13

I thought it had, then thought I was losing my marbles. Which is entirely possible Grin
