Dress me for dinner in a posh hotel, please.

At the weekend I am going to stay overnight in a lovely country hotel and dine in their Michellin Starred restaurant. This is something I have never done before (nor has DH). Dress code says no sportswear or jeans, but that still leaves a lot of room for errors!

I am early 30s, size 8-10, neither tall not short, with reddish hair and green eyes.

Please help - I really want to enjoy the weekend and not feel 'out of place'.

Think we need an idea what your style is? When I'm on a break like that, I aim for a simple dress or trousers and a nice top, heels... I like this dress as it's simple and not OTT

MatildaTheCat · 15/02/2015 20:07

I would go down the dress route. Not too much flesh on show. You will be sitting so concentrate on top half IYSWIM. Hair, nails and makeup all done.

No need to be too formal, just smartish and comfortable (expanding waistline?Smile )

Have fun.

Or this?

AdorabeezleWinterpop · 15/02/2015 20:10

That dress is lovely. I am off to the shops on Tuesday and there is an FC there, so I will go and see it in real life.

My style is simple and a bit boring. I wear a lot of black, grey and khaki colours. Usually wear skinnies, plain T and a scarf. I am scared of wearing bright colours. My hair is cut in a graduated bob with a blunt fringe so I aim for looking 'modern' but generally fail!

I just bought this, it's really nice

HappyGirlNow · 15/02/2015 20:19

Think all those dresses should suit you then Smile

this? I love it!

MrsMillions · 15/02/2015 20:51

Whatever you choose plan to take an extra layer. I love a posh dinner but too often have found the restaurants to be over air-conditioned. Strikes me as particularly daft as surely will make the food go cold quickly too but there you go. So think jacket/cardigan/wrap whatever and if in a skirt/dress, tights.

Enjoy!

That Cos dress is beautiful. No Cos up here so I may order it and then try it at home. Is Cos true to size? FC ones are easier as I can try them on

Clique I know but you can't go wrong with an LBD.
I don't know if you wear make up or not but if not a little bit of mascara and lip gloss is fine.
File and paint your nails

Yeah, Cos sizes are pretty true to the measurements they give on the site.

polyhymnia · 16/02/2015 10:37

I think all the ideas so far are good. Something stylish but sophisticated rather than overstated is best, IMO. No need for bright colour, and nothing with lots of flesh bared and/or glittery, which would look naff and try-hard.

I've never personally experienced air conditioning in posh restaurants or country hotels in February myself.

I have fallen in love with 90% of the stuff on the Cos site. I really like this www.cosstores.com/gb/Women/Dresses/Dress_with_tie_collar/46881-12462914.1#c-294056
