Can anyone recommend a good Primer?

Am currently using Clarins but feel like a change (can't remember what its called but it's tinted pink)
The 'look' I'm after is soft and dewy . I have good skin for my age but have lost that youthful glow . ...
Am prepared to pay a reasonable amount, but not silly money
(I use Boots Serum and Clarins moistouriser)

The Laura Mercier one is my favourite, I use the luminous silk foundation too, very nice and glowy without that overly shiny look. My sister likes Smash box but it's too silicone-y for me.

I use Pixi Flawless Beauty Primer. Lovely glow without being shiny or sparkly, and make up goes on a treat and stays on.

Hourglass is the best I've used. Not cheap, but brilliant.

bbrisotto · 09/02/2015 17:31

The bourjois one called happy light is good, it comes in matt or a radiance one and the radiance one is pink toned and lovely.

LondonRocks · 09/02/2015 19:43

Smashbox is great.

What do you want a primer to do?

Here's what I use: Becca's Skin Perfector shimmery stuff. I smear that on my face right after my moisturiser. It's a bit like the Highlight by Benefit. You could probably use that, as well. Or the cheap stuff that knocks off Highlight sold in Body Care. Anyway, I put a bunch of that on. Makes my face positively irridescent. Then I powder my face with loose powder. Tones down the irridescence. Actually looks fantastic if you want to stop there and do a "no makeup" look. The powder makes a great primer base for foundation, which will then last all day (as per Gossmakeupartist on Youtube.)

I don't mess with primers but this does wonders.

sure ive read lots on here about lanachin chaefe cream being the same as smashbox as a primer and only about £7 in the chemists.

SingSongSlummy · 09/02/2015 20:12

Yup, get down to Boots and buy yourself a tube of Lanacaine anti chafing gel. Exactly the same as Smashbox but very much cheaper. I've been using it for over a year and think it's brilliant.

Dior Glow Maximizer. Transforms my skin from grey to glowy, and I think it makes me look like me 5 years ago. Unbelievably fabulous, expensive but totally worth it - £28.

hettie · 09/02/2015 20:30

Laura mercier radiance primer.... Not too shimmery glowy- very natural glow... Plus you can get a travel zize to try it out (or sample size for a few quid on ebay?)

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 09/02/2015 20:44

I second the Lanacane suggestion.

BallroomWithNoBalls · 09/02/2015 21:51

Bourjois happy light radiance here too, it makes me look all glowy.

LondonRocks · 10/02/2015 13:56

What's lanacane?

LondonRocks · 10/02/2015 13:56

Is it the nipple stuff? Purple tube?

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 10/02/2015 14:16

It's anti chafing gel. I think it's a yellow tube.

Postchildrenpregranny · 10/02/2015 23:23

Anti chafing cream wouldn't feel very glam-you need a bit of glam when you're getting on a bit .But interesting suggestion !
Like the sound of Dior . Am going on holiday soon . Might try airport duty free
And have some Laura Mercier make up which is brilliant in summer when I have a faint tan but I should never have let the lady in SpaceNK sell me to give my naturally very fair skin 'some colour' Grrrghh . It gives me a tide mark. So might try and get a sample of that
And the Bourgeois
Have never heard of some of the other makes ..
Thank you

Not sure I'd be up to your routine Fabulassie . I always feel a bit pseuds corner as it is, with three layers on my face before I even put on foundation . Especially as my mum, who only ever used Nivea and loose powder and Ponds Cold Cream at night , had beautiful skin into her seventies..

Lanacane is actually pretty much the same as Smashbox.

LondonRocks · 11/02/2015 09:30

Is it the same ingredients-wise or in terms of effect?

coffeenut · 11/02/2015 09:59

Fabulassie - do you find that you look super shiny in photos using the skin perfector?
