bra intervention please!

Hi, sorry if there is an official thread for these somewhere that I've missed... I read an old bra intervention thread yesterday and was amazed... Just coming to the end of breastfeeding my second (last!) baby and am down to 2 feeds a day.
I wanted to get some new bras before I go back to work as the breastfeeding ones I've been living in for 9 months are saggy and horrible. I was measured by mothercare when pregnant as a 38f, just measured myself - 33 underneath and 47 when at 90 degrees... So that's a 32jj?? My breasts did look rather like a oranges dangling in socks when I bent over, so just wanted some advice please ... Have I worked it out right?any particular styles you recommend? Worried the cups will be rather cavernous!

Thanks!

Your measurements would be a starting point of a 32JJ/K or a 34J/JJ. If you have quite soft breasts/loss of volume then the leaning measurement can sometimes be a little high BUT it is generally easier to spot a bra which is too big in the cup than too small. So I'd start there (probably with the 32) and work your way down.

Style wise, if you have lost upper fullness then moulded styles which have quite tall cups will tend to be difficult.. Do you have a bravissimo nearby?

Depending on the brand you're going for, you may need to try anything from a 32HH to a 34J.
Your description of oranges in socks, whilst unflattering, is actually quite helpful- I'd suggest starting with balconette styles by either Panache or Bravissimo own brands.

If you can get to a Bravissimo branch then that would be far better, but if not, prepare to order quite a few with a view to returning everything that isn't right.

Thanks for the speedy reply! There's one about half an hour away, so think I'll have to go there as don't fancy ordering loads online to find the right size. My last pre-pregnancy fitting was in m&s and ended up feeling bulgy and vile in a 36g. Will be an interesting experience with a 2.5 year old and a baby in tow!

In that case I'd ring and book an appointment if you can, it will save you hanging about if they're busy when you get there.

Based on your M&S size, 32J sounds about right!

I regularly take DD to fittings at Bravissimo. I try to time it for nap time or take some emergency biscuits. The staff don't mind but if you ring ahead and book you might be able to request a larger fitting room to accommodate a pram. Our local store only has one accessible fitting room so I tend to ring ahead so they know I need to use that.

Good luck!

Managed a child free trip to bravissimo today. Am a 34J! Thanks for your help :D

Result! What bras did you end up with?

TheSpottedZebra · 09/02/2015 21:03

Ooh can I ask for some intervention help please? I'd previously been sized at a 28 or 30F on here, but have since lost weight. And it's all gone from my boobs.

I'm now a 28.5 / 32.5 . What would this make me, please?

Any recco for bras to look at? I have no upper fullness I think, and I'm not especially wide or narrow set. I do find bras often really sore around the ribs, and especially at the gore, where it feels like it rubs on my bones. Any thoughts?

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/02/2015 21:11

Your measurements would suggest a starting point of 28D/DD or thereabouts. With a lack of upper fullness you'll probably like half cups and some balconettes - the Cleo Lily/Minnie type balconettes might work.

Is the gore digging in, or is it rubbing?

TheSpottedZebra · 09/02/2015 21:25

Ooh thanks. It's more that it just feels like it's not sitting well on the bones beneath, IYSWIM. Like there should be mmore padding there. Maybe it's rubbing a bit too.

toast22 · 10/02/2015 07:39

statistically I bought a Bravissimo alana in 34J and panache tango in 34h. Tried on some fantasie ones but they made me a bizarre shape!

I wore the alana all afternoon/evening and by the end of the day it was really rubbing under my arms, so I'm not sure it fits properly after all :/

That could well just be new bra syndrome. You've been used to wearing bras too small in the cup so the edge of the cup and the strap will have been in a totally different place. Your skin won't be used to having anything touching where it is.

It's like breaking in new shoes. Or the first time you put your flip flops on after months in winter shoes and you get a blister even though they fit fine
