Need a sensitive moisturiser with a bit more "oomph" please.

Have great skin (for my age) - but it is starting to feel a bit tight/dry.

I have a very lazy skin care routine - wash in the shower, bit of a final-eye-makeup residue wipe with a Simple Age-kind-thingy face wipe and then pop on a splodge of cheapish sensitive SPF15 day cream.

I have been using (for about 15 years) the £5 or so pots of oil of Olay/L'oreal like this www.boots.com/en/Olay-Anti-Wrinkle-Sensitive-Skin-Day-Cream_1262039/

My skincare routine has worked for me for up until recently - the last month or so - it has just felt not oomphy enough - I need a bit more I think. Skin feels a little tight.

I am not likely to change my routine but would just like not to have this slightly tight feeling.

Can anyone recommend anything please? Do I just need to switch to a night cream (is it a bit more oomphy) or do I need something er...more...if so what? What do I look for? Wary of the beauty counters and I am not too keen on the idea of going stupidly expensive. Especially as I have sensitive skin - so anything non-sensitive also makes me a bit itchy/irritated.

I am 43. If it helps. So I am not sure if I should be looking for anti-wrinkle/stuff for "mature" skin or what. I am totally clueless. Please help.

Where do you all put these bottles and potions? Just have visions of my chest of drawers being cluttered with bottles and jarss galore!

This stuff is amazing

FindMe, all of mine are stored in glass shelves next to the bathroom mirror. My full length bedroom mirror has a little bit of storage space for bottles and such behind it. Smile

I agree with the Neals yard rose facial oil. Great stuff. I'm using Kiehls midnight oil for now.

Also if you can find it a nice moisturising mask worked for me, Nivea did a 2 part honey one that was really nice.

Preciousbane, recently I was away for a weekend, forgot my normal cleanser so had to visit a little chemist shop. There was little choice so I went for Ponds cold cream cleanser (the pink one). I used a hot damp muslim cloth to remove. Anyway it worked a treat that weekend for me - nice soft ckean skin. So worth a try.

Yep, sleep with my make up on. A dab of blusher, eyeliner and mascara. Mostly all gone by bedtime anyway 'part from some eye stuff. I am aware I break all the rules (no make-up removal before bed, use soap and water to clean and cheapo moisturiser) but hey, up until now soft, unlined skin (a few laughter lines) and no spots so have not felt the need to change. My mum has amazing skin in her mid-70s (has the skin of a 50-60 year old) so is genetics - but she did (and still does) pretty much the same as me.

I did (for the first time in my life) moisturise last night. And I didn't use soap this morning. And I will confess there has not been that tight feeling so far today.

Moisturiser is a barrier to stop water from escaping from the skin, it doesn't actually add moisture to the skin. If your skin is still dry/tight you need to be applying it more frequently.

hettie · 10/02/2015 14:19

As others have said you need to stop it feeling tight before the moisturiser..... I'd use an oil based cleanser in the shower, body shop, l'oreal and boots do inexpensive ones. Of you really must use soap what about the avene one which is very soothing...

OK - 3 days without soap and adding in splodging some moisturiser on before bed and skin tightness gone. Did have a spot on my chin this morning though Grin Has gone now.

Had a quick shower after my run at lunchtime and went into auto-pilot and used a teeny bit of milk and a bit of tightness back. Felt it almost immediately.

My Boots order has turned up -tried some coconut oil after my shower and my skin looks fab! Didn't bother with any powder or anything - just a dab of blusher and feel all dewy skinned. ignores the fine laughter lines and pretends I am 20 again

Still using the wipes - but only on eye area. Will use the L'Oreal stuff now it has turned up. Skin needs something more tonight though post-soap mis-hap. Will keep on trying stuff that has turned up - but try to keep it more scientific/controlled and only change one thing at a time.
