If you wear make up- where do you put it on?

And no smart alecs telling me their face! Grin

I'm just bored and watching corrie, liz was putting hers on at the dining table using a compact mirror. Ive seen this a lot on soaps and get why it works in soapland but for me it would be pretty awkward to do it like that. I do mine at my bedroom window with a large mirror propped against the window. I use a compact for up close stuff like mascara but in general prefer to see my whole face because its so beautiful of course Grin

So, where do you put your make up on?

At 6.15 am on the bed, practically in the dark Smile

Paperblank · 06/02/2015 19:47

In bed while listening to the radio and having a cuppa.

During the week, at the kitchen table peering into a little mirror under hideous spotlights whilst simultaneously providing cereal toast juice etc to the DC.

At the weekend, in my bedroom in front of a big mirror with lots of light from the window.

DameGobshite · 06/02/2015 19:50

In the bathroom mirror. I think I've done a decent enough job of covering under eye circles, spots etc but then I wander downstairs and glance in the hall mirror and realise a look like a tired, baggy eyed old crone. this has been going on for years but still don't use the hall mirror for make up application Confused

TheHappinessTrap · 06/02/2015 19:50

Standing up under a dim shaving light over a wall mirror. Not ideal but I can't see and don't want to lose precious seconds going to the table with all my stuff. Cannot wait for summer morning light to help with the task!

Yep, in the dark mornings i do it in my dark room rather than go to the well lit living room mirror. Its just so much faff taking everything downstairs.

Another one here looking forward to brighter mornings!

In a very well lit bathroom mirror, but using a hand held mirror with magnifier for the fiddly bits

Madamecastafiore · 06/02/2015 19:56

dressing room mirror

paulapantsdown · 06/02/2015 19:57

At the kitchen table right by the window. Usually interrupted 175 times by demands for toast and screams of 'where's my school tie'.

BumWad · 06/02/2015 19:58

Dressing table in my dressing room

SurlyCue · 06/02/2015 20:01

'where's my school tie'.

Oh i get "ive no pants" followed by "mum he's stealing my pants!" Grin

On the one day a week, I actually wear make up, I apply it in the car. As a passenger before anyone complains.

I don't have the time/inclination/any idea what I'm doing to do it everyday.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 06/02/2015 20:22

Dressing table with a reversible plain and magnifying mirror, but when my DD stays over these days, despite a dressing table plus a really good mirror over her washbasin, she brings down a mirror to the kitchen table because she wants to be with us all.

AHatAHatMyKingdomForAHat · 06/02/2015 21:09

In front of a well lit bathroom mirror.

It has never occurred to me to do it in the kitchen while everyone is having breakfast. But that's quite a good idea for those days when the DC are all itching for a fight with each other and need constant intervention.

TinseltownLondoner · 06/02/2015 22:01

The essentials are all kept in a portable box with a mirror lid to allow for all eventualities. On a good day, the essentials are applied in the bedroom, at the dressing table and are embellished with non essentials, kept in the dressing table drawer. On a bad day, its essentials only, at the kitchen table whilst force feeding porridge down dc's throats, mopping up spillages and shouting at them to get dressed.

Fairylea · 06/02/2015 22:05

In the living room in front of the mirror over the fireplace with my 2.8 year old ds repeatedly telling me "mummy put fake up on... mummy put fake up on". I think fake up is a pretty good evaluation Grin

Methe · 06/02/2015 22:07

I have a mirror on my window cil in my room. I've tried putting my make up on without natural light and it ain't pretty.

paulapantsdown · 06/02/2015 22:08

surely all this bedroom make up application means you have to get earlier than the kids in order to have time to do it? sod that for a game of soldiers

I get up in time for a shower and coffee, before I start the waking up of kids. Then its back downstairs for more coffee, packed lunch making, some coffee, breakfast and a quick make up application while they are chewing.

How are you able to sit at a dressing table in the morning?

Comito · 06/02/2015 22:12

Spare room, daylight bulb (trust me, it's great and there's no natural light at 6am in the winter) standing in front of a big mirror. I always need to be about three inches from the mirror. Takes me about 10 mins.

SurlyCue · 06/02/2015 22:15

Well mine are 5 and 9 and able to dress themselves and get cereal. Tbh ive made it sort of a rule that they have to give me those 15 minutes to do my hair and make-up with the radio on and bedroom door closed with a cup of tea in the mornings. They know when im in there with door closed just to leave me be til i emerge beautified as a human-like being. Its just about the only time i get in the mornings where im not running round in ten directions.

I am exactly the same as you OP with a large mirror propped up against my bedroom window.

TinseltownLondoner · 06/02/2015 22:16

Good mornings allows for time to sit at a dressing table if I can force myself out of bed in sufficient time before dc are up and about or if dh is willing and able to manage the breakfast process downstairs for 10 mins. I find that its far faster and more efficient to apply make up uninterrupted than it is with dc nicking the bronzer brush every 10 seconds to try and tickle their own cheeks with.

I now look back and think about how much time I must have wasted pre-dc...

AtlanticDrift · 06/02/2015 23:06

My dressing table has velux window above it so the light is all coming down and makes me look like the living dead. I now use the bathroom mirror. I like having the sink nearby anyway as my fingers usually need a was from makeup

AtlanticDrift · 06/02/2015 23:08

My dh gets breakfast started leaving me to get dressed/do make up

SurlyCue · 06/02/2015 23:09

Yes atlantic my bathroom is downstairs so i always have to run down and wash my hands after make up before coming back up to do my hair.
