To chop or not to chop

I have long, curly red hair which is fine and mid back length (think Merida from Brave and you're not far off). I'm early-mid 30s.

I wrote a whole bunch of stuff, but seeing as I'm not wanting to post pictures, thought that was pretty meaningless.

Ultimately I have awesome hair, but I think it maybe suits me better when it's less awesome (shorter). There's a part of me thinking I'm being a bit silly, an ear length bob would look better now, be easier to manage (I'm lazy) and I still have a great colour.

There's another part of me going 'OMG you're 33, you have awesome hair and this is your one chance to grow it'. I suspect this is silly.

Talk some sense into me. I'm an FS mid-management professional, lazy with make-up / hair (often cycle, so routine has to be minimal) but fastidious with brows and good quality, well-fitting clothes. Very conservative at work otherwise, because a short arse with mad ginger hair tends to speak for herself without drawing additional attention.

I possibly need a more grown-up look in terms of hair and make-up, to go with my already grown up dress (today I wore a Hobbs tweed skirt, Jaeger cashmere sweater and a pair of black mid-heeled shoes), but no hairdo and mascara only...

Erk. Maybe I need a makeover. I can actually do make-up reasonably well, but there's a limit to what I can achieve at work.

It will not be a good look.

Do not cut it.
You sound like you love your hair.
Why do you need to be a grown up about it?

EyelinerQueen · 05/02/2015 20:38

Keep your hair!!

Ignore the impulse to be a grown up. I've succumbed to it in the past and always regret it.

Your hair sounds beautiful. DO. NOT. CHOP.

MadameJosephine · 05/02/2015 20:40

I agree, do not chop off your awesome hair!

Twinklestein · 05/02/2015 20:49

It would still be awesome at shoulder length. Ear length bobs with don't really work IMO.

BuggersMuddle · 05/02/2015 21:11

Thanks - shoulder length is an option and might bridge the gap between 'long enough to ponytail' and current look. I will admit I'm a little vain though about chopping, so glad to have a bit of support Smile

But but it might look like Carrie satc when she cut her hair & look awesome. Do you have dainty features?

I don't know if it's any easier to look after but shorter and curly can look fab

Twinklestein · 05/02/2015 21:28

I meant to say ear length bobs with curly hair...

7to25 · 05/02/2015 21:51

Harness your "Dolores Keane" I saw her live and was just amazed by her hair.

brakespeare · 05/02/2015 22:27

Merida is awesome. You sound awesome. your hair sounds awesome. Do not cut the hair. You need your hair. It sounds so intrinsically part of your personality!

ProfessorProfessorson · 06/02/2015 10:21

I am very pro-short hair - lopped mine off recently and absolutely love it short - but yours sounds great as is and it doesn't sound like there's really a reason to cut it. Mine was straggly and limp and rubbish so had to go!

BuggersMuddle · 06/02/2015 22:04

Aww, you are all lovely and I did have a glass of wine prior to my ahem awesome post.

You've convinced me that I ought to continue with The Hair, so I will go for a trim and see how things go. Might ask the hairdresser her opinion (trusted hairdresser - one previous thought 28 was cut off for chopping so I binned!)
