Need an idiot's guide to eyebrow tinting at home

I've been getting my eyebrows tinted at the salon for the last few months and I love the results! The effect has pretty much worn off after 3 weeks though and I would love to be able to keep it up at home rather than going to the salon so often.

Where would I buy the dye? Do you have to apply with a special brush? How easy is it to mess up terribly? Is it something that should only be attempted in the salon? All advice welcome

You can buy Dyebrow kits at a pharmacist's.

MsSampson · 04/02/2015 16:44

I do it all the time and find it pretty easy, and I am certainly no pro at these kinds of things. I just use the kit from boots and out it on with the little plastic wand provided. I've never bothered with vaseline or anything and have never had any face dyeing disasters!
I'm always a bit paranoid about going too dark though so tend to do it once, check, and if it needs to be a bit darker just do it again.
Would definitely not attempt lashes but brows are super easy and it saves a fortune.

Lottapianos · 04/02/2015 16:46

Yes, lashes would definitely have too much disaster potential! Will investigate kits from Boots - thanks Smile

I've been dying my lashes black for 30 years - it's dead easy and makes a massive difference!

Lottapianos · 04/02/2015 16:59

Would be terrified of blinding myself Bonsoir! Do you do one eyelash at a time and put a cotton wool pad under the lashes you're colouring?

I coat my top lashes and go away and do something else (like ironing) for 20 minutes before coating my bottom lashes and leaving for a further 10 minutes. I then rinse it all off in the shower.

Lottapianos · 04/02/2015 17:07

Wow. So you can keep your eyes open and blink and everything while you have dye on your lashes? Bugger me!

Yup!

Years and years of vanity practice!

Pompbear · 04/02/2015 18:41

lashes and brows are both dead easy!

MsSampson · 04/02/2015 18:57

ooh. They make such a fuss of eyelash dyeing in salons I just assumed it would be impossible at home, as they are so definite about keeping your eyes closed. Will be giving it a go.

OhTheDrama · 04/02/2015 20:04

I find the cheap, thin mascara brush that comes with the kits useless. I use an old mascara brush which is much fuller and I get much better results.

Laska42 · 04/02/2015 20:08

do you use the little guards under lash or just vaseline>? if theguards how do you get them to stay and see what you are doing? .. I have a pack of eyelash and eye brow dyre , but have been too scared to use it! ( however could be brave ) ..

scatteroflight · 04/02/2015 22:37

Dyeing lashes and brows is very easy. I don't bother with any precautions like Vaseline or the little sticky eye protector things. Just whack on the mixture top and bottom eyelashes, both eyes, plus brows all at the same time.

Tips - don't make the mixture too runny. The thicker it is the more it stays in place. Too liquidy and some will inevitably leak into your eyes and that stings a lot. Also I do brows for say a minute and keep removing the mixture to check on it. I'm fair so too black and I look pretty stupid.

I get the Eylure kit from Boots.

squoosh · 05/02/2015 01:26

A 2 year old could competently dye their own eyebrows. It's really that easy and I wouldn't dream of paying someone to do it for me. From opening the dye pack to putting it away takes all of five minutes.

squoosh · 05/02/2015 01:27

Buy the kit in Boots for about £7, will give you about ten applications.

Bonsoir · 05/02/2015 07:52

I agree about keeping the mixture thick. I apply it with the wand, not the brush, that is supplied with the kit.

I use the little paper protection pads only when I am dying someone else's lashes and they are lying down. I do find that it is easier to dye my own lashes than to dye someone else's.

Lottapianos · 05/02/2015 07:53

Thanks a lot folks. What's the name of the kit from Boots that you recommend?

I use dyebrow from boots. It's very easy - put the colour developing liquid on your brows with a cotton bud and wait for a minute or two. Then put the dye on the little wand and put that on. Wait another 2 mins and wipe off with a damp cotton wool pad and
ta-da! Lasts a couple of weeks on me.
