Inexpensive clothes for teenage boys- where can I buy?

Where do others buy inexpensive clothes for growing teenage boys? Ds is 15 (1.62M)and too tall for supermarket, and most high street shops but not tall or wide enough for mens clothes. He has LD so I buy his clothes for him, but would like him to dress as far as possible (he struggles with fastenings) age appropriately. He is quite messy and hard on his clothes so needs a generous supply! M+S, Next, Debenhams and Tesco/Sainsburys all stop at 12 or 14. JohnyB is expensive, although I buy a little in the sales (just got a sale 16+ winter coat that is only just long enough- their 16+ is not much bigger than an M+S 13-14). I was very reliant on M+S as we live near an out of town store, but they now only do school and very limited undies/PJs in the 15-16 range - no casual clothes or coats. Thanks

Primark and H&M are great and cheap. Next Men can be reasonable for some items but dear for others, and they do next day free delivery to store. All these shops do an extra small. As do Topman. Lots of shops do a 28 waist too.

My DS is 6 foot and slim and fits a size small/32s in trousers. Of yours is skinny an XS ought to be ok.

NorbertDentressangle · 04/02/2015 11:08

Topman seems to be popular with some of the teenage boys where I work.

Also have a look at some of the surfy type brand websites as they often have sales on where you can pick up decent quality hoodies and tshirts.

Corsu · 04/02/2015 11:10

If you're in London, then Forever 21 has a great men's section and their sizing is very accommodating. There's one in Stratford Westfields.

cosytoaster · 04/02/2015 11:12

My son is 6'2" and slim, I've bought clothes from the men's ranges in River Island and New Look. Both start at quite small waist sizes.

Girlwithnotattoos · 04/02/2015 11:13

Next is available over 14yrs but not in shop just online. If you see something in store you like they'll order it in the correct size. Also yy yo H&M great stylish basics and very reasonable Grin

maggiso · 04/02/2015 12:06

Thank you very much. I will look at Topman, H+M, Forever 21, and Next online, and surfer brands. He needs a lot of basics.
Ds has a small 27 inch waist and is very skinny, but should hopefully fill out eventually. He is about 5'4" , but I can sew hems!

most mens shops sell a 28inch waist that would fit him with a belt. topman often sell a 26 but might be too small.

at 15 my ds was shopping in the mens sections., often easier as most mens wear also stocks short, regular or long leg so the short leg was fine.

lots of the boys seem to be wearing the sweatshirt type material jogging bottoms at the moment, I guess because they are warmer than jeans or chinos, a small or xs if you can get it should it him and are supposed to be baggy and loose. my 13yr old has help the hero ones that were in the sale but hes 5'11 and a 30 waist already.

sports direct have some good bits in if you don't mind him wearing sportswear. I used to hate it but have now come to accept I and most of the time even if my sons aren't going out to train for rugby/football etc they will end up having a kick about with friends anyway. (grrr to ds2 coming home covered in mud all the time as he was playing rugby in the park)

these went down well with ds2 and noticed ds1 (17) looking at them as well www.sportsdirect.com/soulcal-logo-sweatpants-mens--488435?colcode=48843526

I thought that this brand would be the kiss of death in teen social circles but apparently loads of the boys wear Slazenger as long as its only the small logo like this www.sportsdirect.com/slazenger-small-logo-fleece-hoody-mens-532007?colcode=53200726

TKMaxx are great. The men's jeans are size (waist) listed which is great for my oldest two who are so skinny but tall. Also, the 26/27/28" men's waist jeans are usually in their sales. They both wear adult t's in S or M and from primark/h&ms/anywhere really. DS2 lives in army camo trousers, either ex army or as new, really cheap!

Mabelface · 04/02/2015 13:26

Primark is excellent for my skinny boys. You should be able to get a 28" waist and 29" leg for him.

maggiso · 04/02/2015 13:50

Thanks Help I have ordered from sports direct. You do have to know whats 'in'! Sports gear is easy to wear and put on too.
HellKitty and Madlizzy, thanks. I will look in Primark and TKMaxx mens departments.

Saltrock is popular here for tops and jumpers and on a never-ending sale! DSS is about the same height as your son and pretty skinny, we've found that xs men's stuff from Asda (pants, pjs, etc) fit him fine.

maggiso · 04/02/2015 15:44

Thanks Whatahooha, I did not know Asda did a XS mens and Saltrock sounds interesting.

My 15yo has a 26" waist, 32" leg and is 5'9"

Primark mens XS
Sports shops for TShirts and joggers

I bought him some school trousers (M&S) in age 14 with extra long leg, had to hoik in the waist with the adjuster .

Maverick66 · 04/02/2015 17:12

Ds is 16 6ft2 he wears 30 waist 32 leg. He likes slim leg not skinny from next, primark, H&M burton and blue inc. he loves Hollister which is pricey but they do have great sales and their shirts are fab quality ;)

Eastpoint · 04/02/2015 17:18

Uniqlo XS t-shirts & fleeces are good. My DS is the same age & height as yours, wears age 11/12 Zara trousers & John Lewis age 12 school trousers (nice thick warm fabric). He likes clothes without logos so Uniqlo is great as completely plain.

Bearleigh · 05/02/2015 03:26

This is all good to know - DS is 15 skinny and 5'5". Next does up to 16 in a lot of things doesn't it? Uniqlo men's is a good source of simple basics in S.

mysteryfairy · 05/02/2015 07:02

Look in the clearance section of Hollister website. Sizes not very generous, simple easy to manage styles.

rootypig · 05/02/2015 07:04

Uniqlo for hard wearing basics that are slim cut, definitely. Shop in London or online. DH has had a lot of stuff from there (jeans, cords, shirts) and it lasts forever. Also recommend their light down jackets, unbelievable value.

defineme · 05/02/2015 07:05

I got a lot of cheap tshirt sets and shorts from next clearance site in age 16...actually for my 5ft9 12 year old!

Rivercam · 05/02/2015 07:16

I have a six foot fifteen year old as well and in adult clothing. I wait for sales. Also, M an M direct (online) is good. I also go to an outlet centre which has a Superdry outlet (and other high street shop outlets).

HellKitty · 05/02/2015 08:48

I should add that both my oldest teens get a lot of adult t's from eBay/Amazon as they're more unusual than high street. Obscure bands or random stuff. They don't like brand names. Thank god!

maggiso · 05/02/2015 15:46

Thank you every one! So helpful, and to know where others teens are happy with sweats and tees.
Can I ask do 15 year old boys wear motives like Star wars or Lego motives on their tops or is that not age appropriate now?

AnythingNotEverything · 05/02/2015 15:57

Mine wouldn't OP.

Eastpoint · 05/02/2015 16:23

Mine is logo free, he likes completely plain clothes (ideally navy) but he is definitely geeky, loves computer programming & space.
