OK so which shops DO you go in then??

Instead of giving me a list of places NOT to go to (although I agree with most of you!) - give me a list of shops/websites that DO work for you. I need some new inspiration!!!

I'm mid(ish) forties, size 14 (hopefully soon a 12) and just on the taller size of average. SAHM/WFH so no need for office smartness!

Have shopped in White Stuff and Fat Face (although now mostly only in the sale!), other than that supermarkets, odd bit of New Look, Dotty P's.

To be honest have hardly bought any new clothes for the last 2 years as have felt too large for it, but have recently dropped a stone so feel like I deserve a bit of a re-vamp.

Please list your faves..........

I know what you mean.
I like simple styles and colours such as navy, grey and white.
I could wear most of the Mint Velvet stuff happily.
And The White Company.
I used to wear fussier flouncy stuff when I was size 12 but am now drawn to a simpler look.
I would love a slightly cheaper version of White Company, Eileen Fisher, Wishbone etc in the same limited colour palette.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 02/02/2015 20:39

Next I forgot about them. They have some good stuff. The problem is they sell so much that it takes forever to go through it all. But lots of nice things in there.

Corygal · 02/02/2015 20:53

I am fat (thyroid) and 47. I love

Me & Em
Cos
Stories

but most of all

TK Maxx, where I buy armfuls of Theory, Vince, Ballantyne, Fogal tights and the designery cashmere. Stella McCartney shoes today for 23 quid. It's cheaper than Topshop for the originals the high street rips off from, and delish quality.

Oh, and for bedlinen I buy the Malabar range at TK - it's labelled as White Company once you get inside the packet.

GeorginaWorsley · 02/02/2015 21:30

I just don't get on with T K Maxx.
I wish I could, am envious of people who can!
I get overwelmed by the amount and I can't rummage Sad

FunkyPeacock · 02/02/2015 21:49

40, 5'8", size 12

I shop in TKMaxx, Gap, Next, Phase Eight (sale), Designers at Debenhams, H&M, Asos, Jones, French Connection (sale), Hobbs (sale), Boden (sale & very selectively!), local independant vintage dress shop for special occasion dresses

Also occasionally Top Shop, New Look, Warehouse & Miss Selfridges

I don't shop often so when I do I will generally head to TKMaxx, House of Fraser or a designer outlet as lots of brands under one roof

southeastastra · 02/02/2015 21:51

i buy mostly from french connection, topshop, esprit and zara

PiratePanda · 03/02/2015 01:02

HATE T K Maxx for myself; can never find anything. Good for kitchenware.

Cos at the moment is all boxy and horrid; would look terrible on me. I'm afraid All Saints is really for younger women. Unless you're super slender maybe. But it's a bit too cool for school.

John Lewis for knickers.

RockMummy · 03/02/2015 07:57

I will try anywhere that has clothes in my colours(leaf autumn) so that rules out most of the high street especially White Company. Particularly love Mango/Zara/Massimo Dutti with occasional things from Seasalt/White Stuff/Fat Face. Like Boden because it isn't always a sea of black/grey/navy which all make me look like a corpse!

Floisme · 03/02/2015 08:20

I agree RockMummy, I should have spoken up for Boden. For all their faults, at least they're not afraid of colour!

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 03/02/2015 08:27

If I cant buy it in Primark or H&M, it doesnt get bought (clothes for me)
Kids clothes are H&M, Asda, Next
DH buys his own clothes
House stuff - Tesco, Asda or IKEA.

AggressiveBunting · 03/02/2015 08:35

40, 5'6'', size 8

J Crew, Club Monaco, Whistles, Cos, Shopbop (in the sale and for 7 for all Mankind).

Just looked at The Dressing Room and it looks great and delivers internationally so will add that to my list of options.

GeorginaWorsley · 03/02/2015 08:56

I'm probably some kind of autumn but I ignore that as I love the minimal palette that is in The White Company.
Am wearing mostly greys, navy and white .
Oh and I love slate blues.

KikitheKitKat · 03/02/2015 08:57

I notice Wallis hasn't been mentioned in either thread - is it beyond even being thought about any more?!

Georgina1975 · 03/02/2015 09:31

39; 5ft 8; 12-14

Toast, Hobbs, Anthropologie, Boden, Whistles, Comptoir.

Shoes: size 7 and wide feet/narrow calf - Ecco; Camper; Keds

SinglePringle · 03/02/2015 09:38

Glad to have been of service Bunting!

And no, Wallis isn't even on my radar.

BrandyAlexander · 03/02/2015 09:40

I think there are very few brands I would entirely rule out so have stuff at all price points. I am 41, 5'2 and size 6. My wardrobe has clothes from

Selfridges
John Lewis
Marks & Spencers
Harrods
Matches
Austin Reed
Primark
Gap
Banana Republic
J Crew
Ann Taylor
Abercrombie & Fitch
SuperDry
Warehouse
Kaliko (via JL)
Phase 8
Desigual
Hobbs
The White Company
Me&Em
Lk bennett
Coast
Ralph Lauren
Armani Collezioni
Max Mara
DvF
Roland Mouret
Michael, Michael Kors
Anglomania
Alice & Olivia
Hawick
Helmut Lang
The Outnet
Net a Porter

leedy · 03/02/2015 10:34

Oh yeah, Shopbop is great for US brands. I've got a lot of jeans there, especially in the sales. Good for handbags as well.

Had forgotten about The Outnet as well, can pick up some nice bits there. Also I need to overcome my TK Maxx AAAARRGHHH NOOO TOOO MUCH STUFF fear, it seems.

Dancergirl · 03/02/2015 12:29

I am 43, 5'3", size 12

I like:

Fat Face
Some M and S
Wrap
Hush
Poetry
Some Boden (but much less than I used to)
Jack Wills
Cos
Mint Velvet
Hobbs

TeaAddict235 · 03/02/2015 13:06

30, 5"6, 8-10

Gap,
Promod (Germany)
LaRedoute (shops in France & Germany, rather than online due to the quality & returns policies & clubcard points),
Fatface,
Tk Maxx (when I can as it's in another town),
Debenhams (ditto)
Camper (work & casual shoes),
Clarkes (boots),
Ebay Grin

Instituteofstudies · 03/02/2015 13:44

I'm 54 and size 12.

Mango (selectively, avoiding the jumpers with a lot of bobble potential, and the swathes of polyester).
Gap (but not for jeans/trousers)
Zara (selectively, avoiding polyester and weirder designs)
Topshop
Oasis for jeans
Esprit (when I'm near a branch)
Uniqlo (when I'm near a branch)
Bravissimo for bras
TK Maxx for socks, bags, accessories

AmberNectarine · 03/02/2015 13:55

My wardrobe mostly comes from:

Topshop/ASOS (fun/frivolous stuff)
Helmut Lang (leather and dresses)
Uniqlo (cashmere and merino sweaters, shirts)
Zoe Karssen (sweatshirts)
Equipment (silk shirts)
Goldsign (jeans)
TK Maxx (jeans)
eBay (unusual things)

Bags and shoes are usually NaP/Matches

MintChocAddict · 03/02/2015 14:00

Off to google Cos. Have never heard of it! Confused

BritabroadinAsia · 03/02/2015 15:12

Amber, have never heard of Zoe Karssen - is this a concession in dept store/standalone shop/online retailer?

Aggressive Bunting, am smiling at your list. We live in the same city, and I'm very familiar with the limited options!
Will check out The Dressing Room, thanks for the heads up.

leedy · 03/02/2015 15:16

"Zoe Karssen - is this a concession in dept store/standalone shop/online retailer?"

It's a brand, I don't think they have specific stores (I've seen it online). I have an excellent bat logo top from her that DS1 loves because "now me and mammy have matching Batman tops".

TempsPerdu · 03/02/2015 15:25

I'm 34, 5'3 and a size 8. Have to shop around a lot, especially for dresses and trousers, as I have a very petite build and most things swamp me. Don't have a 'go-to' shop as such, as I'm getting increasingly picky about fabrics and colours/prints as I get older!

Cos (luckily I'm in London, as I'd never buy anything if I had to rely on their dreadful website!)
& Other Stories
Zara and Mango (avoiding all the polyester tat)
Topshop (although much less so these days - used to be obsessed with it!)
Urban Outfitters (usually their Cooperative collection)
Comptoir des Cotonniers (Sale stuff only as a rule)
Uniqlo for basics e.g. vest tops
ASOS Petite
Plus the odd bit from Mint Velvet, Hush and, surprisingly enough, M&S - their jeggings fit me perfectly, and I got a lovely black swing coat from there for Christmas.
