Throughout my 20s brown was a staple favourite which suited me.I'm now late 30s and if I put anything brown on it seems to make me look old and dowdy! I still have pretty good skin, high contrast colouring, so dark hair and eyes, pale skin, red lips. Do I need to send all my brown clothes to charity, or can I combine them with another colour to make them wearable again??

Brown is an autumnal colour and you sound wintery, do you look better in black?

Yes black suits me and grey. What else should one wear with winter colouring? muted rather than rich browns do seem to be better.

Possibly also that brown was much more current in the 90s (remember when you could buy all basics in brown or black, now it's black or grey), so maybe it doesn't feel very 'now.' Apparently the 70s are making a resurgence over the next few seasons so we'll see more brown available again...

I'm a winter and although brown isn't my colour my eyes are really dark brown so I find I look ok in a deep bitter chocolate rather than a sludgy one. I also wear fuchsia pinks, cobalt blue, charcoal, emerald green, pine green, blue red, burgundy and deep purples. I have navy, grey and black as my neutrals. It's not at all restrictive and I love the neutrals.

Oh, and reflecting the high contrast you have in your looks works well in your clothing, I hate muted tones. I like a high contrast look.

You could try using Dylon in black. Some stuff might turn deepest brown/black but being darker might still be wearable.
