Here is a photo of the gorgeous Gillian Anderson. I have similar hair and eye colour and think her make-up in this photo is to die for, I would love to attempt to recreate it.

What colours would you say she is wearing on her eyes? I'm assuming the shadow is grey, or blue grey...do you think the eyeliner is black? I'm terrible at this stuff, hence my posting here asking ever so nicely for help Grin

She's fairly heavily made up. Looks like a neutral base with a couple of shades of grey to create a smokey eye, black eyeliner along top and possibly eyeliner between her lashes too. False eyelashes, black eyeliner or shadow underneath her eye but only taken halfway to make her eyes look larger, mascara on lower lashes.

Ooh you are good atticus Grin How on earth would you do eyeliner between lashes though? That's a new one for me!

I agree Precious I think she has become more and more attractive the older she's got.

She's a stunning woman, i hope I look as good or half as good as she does when I reach her age. I agree, she's got lots of greys, lots of black eyeliner, possibly using the push technique as well (you can google push liner) lips are a sort of pinkish nude if there's any colour on them at all. You might possibly want to look at filling your brows if yours aren't as thick as hers are

SoMuchForSubtlety · 28/01/2015 19:25

TooOld if you look for youtube tutorials on tight lining it will show you how to get the liner right between the lashes. It's easiest with an angle brush and damp eyeshadow.

Also she has hooded eyes so where you put the shadow for a smokey eye is different (you have to put it a bit above the crease or you don't see it).

TooOldForGlitter · 28/01/2015 19:29

Am fascinated with you tube videos of the push technique now!

I'm having my eyebrows threaded next week so they've been allowed to grow wild and free for a while...hoping for a shape similar to GA's in the photo. Natural but tidy.

I'm that colouring too. :) I do my make-up like this quite often.

Revlon do a nice, inexpensive, eyeshadow palette that will give you all those colours for not much money - good to try it out. It's a Colourstay eyeshadow palette called "Moonlit Clair de Lune". It's got white (for along the brow bone), pale grey (for the eyelid), mid-grey (for the eye socket/crease), and black (for smudging alongside black liquid eyeliner).

The best bit is, the underneath of the box gives you a painting-by-numbers style instruction on where to apply each colour!

:)

Looking at her photo again - and at this Revlon eyeshadow - I think her eyeshadow is more bluey/silvery grey than this stuff. But again, Boots sells a ton of eyeshadow trios in that mix of shades (white, silver and black). Get thee to the shops!

I use black liquid eyeliner on my top lid, as close to my eyelash line as possible. I also dye my eyelashes as ginger lashes can be v pale at the roots and you can't have a line of pale right by your eyeliner!

Then I wet a snub-nosed brush and use it to smudge black eyeshadow all along the line of eyeliner. It gives a fatter line and is WAY more flattering than a skinny thin line. You need a wet brush otherwise the shadow falls off the brush and goes all over your face. Plus the colour is more intense when it's wet.

On the bottom, I don't use liquid eyeliner but just use the damp brush to smudge black eyeshadow halfway along my eye.

Then I highlight the tear trough (? The innermost corner) with some white shadow, and use it on my brown one too.

Then LOADS of mascara. Using two different brands seems to build up the intensity better than just one.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 28/01/2015 19:39

Brown one?! Brow bone

TooOldForGlitter · 28/01/2015 19:42

Thanks for the Revlon tip WhatsGoingOnEh Will look out for that.

I think it's about time I had a make-up overhaul. I think i've been doing my make-up the same for...well, I don't want to say how many years, but too long! Blush

X-posted with you. That's really helpful advice, thank you Smile

Will be hitting the shops this weekend (roll on payday!) so will try it out as per your guide. Need to get some brushes too. I have one....Blush

No-o, she was so hot as Scully. She still looks weird to me with blonde hair. I had a major crush on her as a teenager though. Blush

TooOldForGlitter · 28/01/2015 19:55

I like her with the red hair too Grin

Her eyes are like mine, no visible lid and so as a PP said you have to take the shadow up above the crease of your eyelid. I draw a semi circle just above my eyelid in the smokey grey. I keep the eyelid itself neutral, I put darker grey on the outside corners and then I blend blend blend.

TooOldForGlitter · 28/01/2015 21:00

Just been looking at myself intensely in the mirror! I don't have much of a visible eyelid myself, so I will be using these techniques.
