How would you chane the sizing system? Woul you get rid of the numerical system?

3d printers in all the shops. Chose the item you like, get the relevant bit of you body scanned and they can print it to be a perfect fit!

When I was in India, a lot of the shops had material you could choose ( for a tunic and trousers), they'd take your measurements and then a tailor would make it for you. Brilliant! But would probably be too expensive here.

YY a thousand times over for standardisation. I have things that fit between a size 8 (OK, one single Monsoon dress) and a 16. I am mostly a 14 though, but with a small waist.

There needs to be some account of differening waist sizes though - on me, waists are massive especially in places like M&S and Next. Maybe they need to do sizes in apples and pear shapes?

I do think they have taken account that we are generally taller these days though. I used to be too tall for everything but I am now regular a lot times and long is sometimes too long (I haven't shrunk, but women are significantly taller than even 20 years ago).

One of the things I'd change is that too many sleeves (esp on on short-sleeved garments) are too tight. We're not overweight, but both DD and I both find a lot of them are too small - we have a bit of fat but also some muscle.

I'm not convinced about standardization of sizes, because there's so much variation in women's shape. We tend to find brands that suit us - if they were all consistent then it would be hard for most of us to find a decent fit. 'apples/pears' is one thing, but also there's sturdy vs skinny legs etc. Never mind bust size - when you think of the sizing of bras, it's hard to see how to get other clothes right. DD and I are ostensibly the same size and height but I'm 32E and she's 36D.

I'd want them to be explicit about their fit models. I'm a pear and it would save time and energy if I knew without trying on loads of stuff which ranges would fit me best. For example, I know that M&S Autograph trousers fit me brilliantly (although no other M&S ranges do) so I default to trying them first for work trousers, which is pretty boring.

Taking that further, just as they do tall and petite ranges, having adjusted shapes within sizes eg 10Pear, 10Apple, etc etc would be fab.

Sorry hadn't read whole thread and have just seen this point has been made several times already! Blush

Does anyone know how the sizing are actually worked out?

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 28/01/2015 18:48

Standardisation. IF something says it is 36inch hips, then why can't it measure 36inches. No point having "size 10, 12 " etc if they vary so wildy from shop to shop

Maybe size clithes like they do for men - waist and leg measurement for trousers, chest measurement for shirts.

Lardylassnomore · 28/01/2015 19:11

I remember there used to be a size actually called standard size in some shop. I think it could have been Richards

I wish there were men's clothes that were longer in the torso and sleeves. DS and DH are both 6 foot plus, DS has to buy an XL so that it fits his shoulders but then it's massive everywhere else but finishes just above the waist of his jeans (which are worn properly), DH takes the next size up for the same reason. Also a wider selection of width in jeans and trouser legs. DS= thighs like rugby player but can't find loose fit jeans because if they fit his thighs then they are too loose at the waist. DH, on the other hand, has thigh extensions instead of a bum and straight leg jeans flap around the thigh Confused

I'm short and should be able to wear the petite range but the shoulders are often too narrow and my boobs are too big. If I buy the standard size the sleeves are too long. Short legs in jeans are just that little bit too short but the standard length is too long...

Agree with everyone! Standardise sizes. Cut clothes with shapes in mind. I'm also pear and have a terrible job finding skirts or trousers that don't hang off my waist or are to tight on my hip.

Arms are a problem as well. Usually tight and to short or bust is too big/small.

Love the idea of taylored clothes. Parts of Africa do this as well as my friends look beautiful in what they get from tailors when visiting.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 28/01/2015 19:42

Also, clothes online should have more measurements, and also give the proportions of the model (eg 35/25/37, height 5'10") so you can have a bash at working out how said item would fit you. Or the 3D printer thing. I'd go for that.

FannyFanakapan · 28/01/2015 19:43

Boob sizing would be a start for dresses.

DD is very petite, with big norks (32E). She'll fit an 8-10, but then the waist band looks like an empire line. If she goes for a 12, the waist is in the right place, but baggy. The boobs are OK, but there is too much gape at the neck and underarms.

As for me - I am very apple shaped. I look like humpty dumpty. Id like clothes with waistbands that wont roll down my belly. I feel like wearing braces some days...

Also, leg length. Im not that tall, I just have disproportionately long legs. The standard length hits just above the ankle.
