Is Clinique make up worth the money?

citygirl1961 · 27/01/2015 18:17

I do like it but the prices have taken a hike. Does anyone still think its worth the cost?

Watching with interest.
I covet the airbrush concealer.

bryonyelf · 27/01/2015 18:46

No, I think there is better out there. Rimmel for a start.

Petal02 · 27/01/2015 20:00

Clinique is worth every penny (however I've recently discovered boots no 7 foundation, which is just as good as Clinique). I've been using their make up since my teens, if I try a high street brand I can really tell the difference, I recently tried a max factor eyeshadow which just doesn't blend like Clinique does.

Lardylassnomore · 27/01/2015 20:03

I think their superbalm is hard to beat and their eyeshadow seems more smoother than high street brands.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/01/2015 20:22

Yes, I think it is worth the money although I've recently been using Liz Earle makeup. I'll probably switch back to Clinique when I run out though as I prefer being able to buy on the high street if I suddenly run out.

frankie80 · 27/01/2015 20:44

The anti blemish solutions is the only foundation that gives me natural, full coverage and properly covers all my blemishes.

I've tried other foundations but nothing else comes close.

Twinklestein · 27/01/2015 21:06

No, I think Dior and Chanel are better for roughly the same price. Lancôme does better mascara (albeit a smidge more expensive).

Petal02 · 27/01/2015 21:28

I thought Dior and Chanel were loads more expensive than Clinique?

Twinklestein · 27/01/2015 21:38

Not massively more, Clinique foundation is around £24 and you can get Dior Nudeskin for £28 online.

Clinique mascara is around £17, Dior Iconic is around £22-4. Lancôme Hypnose is around £22.

BunnyLebowski · 27/01/2015 21:40

Agree with Twinkle

There's no way I'd buy Clinique when so many better brands are around the same price. Clinique have a handful of good products but nothing amazing. It's a bit of a 'meh' brand to me.

Fairylea · 27/01/2015 21:41

I worked for clinique for many years. I do like their stay matte foundation but everything else is nothing to get excited about really. I've always preferred max factor 2000 calorie mascara and rimmel stay matte powder. I then worked for chanel for a few years and I loved their skin care but since I found out their make up is manufactured by Bourjois (or the other way round, same thing) I buy their make up as it's of the same quality just cheaper packaging.

ouryve · 27/01/2015 21:43

It used to be all I could tolerate on my face. Everything else made me break out in eczema. I don't bother with anything, now.

arlagirl · 27/01/2015 21:45

I love the cc cream

BumWad · 27/01/2015 21:45

I have tried so many different liquid foundations Mac, Bobbi Brown, Nars etc and I always go back to clinique. The anti-blemish one is fab!

MsVestibule · 27/01/2015 22:02

I swear by their tinted moisturiser and happily pay full price for it. I use the rest of their makeup by default as I got so much in their freebie bags that I never actually use anything else to compare it to!

FamiliesShareGerms · 27/01/2015 22:07

I love the City Block

citygirl1961 · 27/01/2015 22:09

Is that the moisture surge tinted moisturiser? I used that for a while and now use the No7 one which is good but I guess the Clinique one gives a better coverage, the bottle is very small though don't you find?

I use Clinique quickliner which is fab and I manage to get that half price from Amazon.

The other Clinique item I like is the lipstick but its now £17.50. I guess its OK if you only use one shade like I do, I keep trying to tell myself its worth it.

Those are the only Clinique items I like, tinted moisturiser, eyeliner and lipstick, the rest I use No7 and skin care is Liz Earle or Body Shop.

I like the buttershine lipstick which I am sure was only £10.50 in 2010 and their chubby sticks.

anothernumberone · 27/01/2015 22:15

I used to use their moisture balance but now I use Lancôme which I find much better.

happybubblebrain · 27/01/2015 22:25

I've bought Clinique for 20 years, but just certain items and I only buy it when there's a bonus time. I always buy their make-up remover, toner and superfine eyebrow pencil but I've tried most of their products over the years.

In the current bonus time (Fenwicks) there's a mascara, eye shadow trio, lipstick, two make-up brushes, eye make-up remover, eye cream, face cream and makeup bag, which are all products I'll use. I spent 30 pounds on two items and got all that for free. I've got about 50 Clinique lipsticks from the bonus bags now, I probably should have a good clear out as some of them are 20 years old. I think Clinique is good value for money, I love the products and really like the packaging.

Debenhams and Fenwicks send me cards to tell me when the Clinique bonus time is on so I don't miss them.

Twinklestein · 27/01/2015 23:07

Bourjois was owned by Chanel before Coty bought it, but that doesn't mean the ingredients are the same. It's a much cheaper line. I have quite a bit of Bourjois makeup, because I think it's by far the best of the high street brands; but it's not just the packaging that differentiates it from Chanel - many products - mascara, lipgloss, nail polish, brushes etc simply do not compare in quality to Chanel. However, I find their eyeshadows and blushers, while more limited in colours, compare favourably.

plentyofshoes · 27/01/2015 23:16

I swear by it. I use the city block, foundation and eye make up. The liquid facewash too. It lasts a long time so it is worth it. The eyeshawdow stays put on me and quickliner does not smudge at all.
Not a fan of the mascara though and I get face scrub and blusher with other brands but I think it would be odd to get everything from one brand.

coffeenut · 28/01/2015 03:06

I really dislike Clinique mascaras and eye products (get a terrible allergic reaction) and their foundations turn orange on me. Their moisturisers also makes my eyes run.

BUT their blushing powder blushes are the bomb. I have repurchased Innocent Peach more times than I can remember.

Saurus72 · 28/01/2015 07:02

happybubblebrain 20 year old lipsticks Confused

Agree re: the blushing powder blush, have just repurchased after my last one finally finished after 16 months of daily use - amazing value.

I also like the chubby sticks for lips - with daily use one lasts me around 4-5 months.

NickiFury · 28/01/2015 07:13

Clarins is better. Their extra firming foundation and range are just the best. I've been using Clarins since my mid twenties and am often told I look quite a bit younger than I am.
