Hair Help...thin, wavy hair with no volume - colour - extensions for volume?

I'm wanting to do something with my hair. It's quite thin and soft and wavy and requires a fair lot of maintenance or else it goes frizzy and dry at the ends / greasy at the top. Right now it's cut with a centre parting, no layers or anything and it looks a bit like a beachy sort of look unless I straighten or curl it.

I was wanting to do something new with it...and was thinking of either getting a shaggy fringe put into it, or getting some extensions just to add volume, or maybe colouring it? My first few greys are coming through and I sort of feel like my hair still looks like a teenager and seems to always be a mess. there's not enough of it to do a decent "up do" and I just want to look a bit more sexy!

Colouring definitely gives my hair a bit of volume and 'grip', but not spectacularly so. I wouldn't go down the the extensions route. It's a slippery slope and once you get them in it's difficult to imagine going cold turkey and long term use can trash your hair.

Thanks TCD. I think I'm going to book in for a cut and colour and hope it will give me a lift!

I agree that colour gives a bit of volume at the roots. You could try some long layers- start slowly to see how you like it though, ie don't do anything too dramatic on first trip to the hairdresser.

Highlights? And regular trims will help raggedy ends and just look better, even if you go for a mussed up look.

For volume - babyliss big hair if you can be bothered? And coconut oil soaks work wonders on my similar hair, makes it a more even condition from root to tip and thicker feeling.

Erm, what about a perm? Sail Hughes from the guardian had a new fangled one last year and it looked lovely.

Get some good quality clip in extensions. Buy colourable ones and have your hairdresser colour them to match your own hair and cut to the same length. You can then choose to wear them when you want to look glam without making any drastic changes. HK real hair extensions are the best - great quality, easy to use and very thick.

That perm sounds bloody great! Not cheap though, of course - nothing ever is.

Wow! amazing advice...I had no idea such a perm existed! I'm booked in Monday for cut and the first colour of my life (sheltered life!) and got some new products...that might help too. The clip in extensions look great too...I'll wait till it's been coloured so I know the right shade.

Love the idea of the digital perm, really great idea because my hair is wavy at the ends and flat at the top...I might seriously consider investing in that soon!
