Swimming costume worries

I'm going to Florida in May and bought this on Saturday. I really like it and DH said it suits me but I'm worried I'm going to look ridiculous in it - I really, really don't want to have to wear a swimming costume, shorts and t shirts are my limit for bearing flesh!

I tried on other costumes but this was the only style I felt remotely comfortable in as it didn't make my boobs look huge but was very supportive. Please tell me that I won't be stared at for looking ridiculous! I know you don't know what I look like but if it helps I'm 39, 5'7", size 14 with a tummy and chunky legs.

(And if anyone has any other ideas for a costume that would be great as I'll need another one!)

Thank you.

OP have you considered a swimdress?
something like this though I'm sure you can find nicer ones if you look
or you can also get a separate swim skirt to wear over your bottoms if you get a tankini or bikini

I love all the rutchy bits on your costume. You'll look great!

The brand Zogg is cut for curvy women. I like mine mine very much.

You could also get a very light, transparent cover-up that is meant to be worn on the beach, which would give you more confidence as you walk around.

It's a lovely costume. Florida in May will be hot so you will want to get in the pool to cool off, so don't even consider not taking a swimsuit or bikini.

I have been to the US three times and I am staggered at how many obese people there are. There is really no need to feel self conscious about your size.

Gorgeous cossie! I agree that you should try on some good quality bikinis too.

Any chance of a light spray tan before you go? Or a gradual tan body lotion. If I'm a bit wobbly and self conscious, it's the milky whiteness that makes it worst - I think a light tan has wondrous cellulite concealing properties.

Don't worry a hoot about what you eat whilst on holiday, but maybe the week before, drink loads of water and try to cut down on snacks and sugar, your body will tighten up considerably. And daily slathering of a body lotion the week before you go! I think it's not about size per se with baring it all on the beach but about a mix of good swimwear, body confidence and a tan!

But I find that I see the wrinkles more on tanned skin. Or it may be that tanned skin is more damaged and has more wrinkles? Who knows?

I used to share your worries OP. I only recently started going on hot/beach holidays and I don't think the reality could have been any further from my fears. You have a perfectly normal shape body, with all the usual life scars all women have. Sure there will be a few tanned and toned ladies, but they will be in the minority believe me. But regardless, I really hope you see once there, that honestly, no-one will care and no-one will judge.

That swimsuit looks fine to me, but you have time to try loads on, the slightest difference in cut and shape could make all the difference to your confidence. Definitely consider a bikini, it took me going once to realise, as others upthread have said, most ladies wear them. Do not buy a swim dress, please!!

Get a pedicure, buy some nice cheap cover up dresses, maybe a sunhat. A nice big beach bag or basket. Load up your kindle if you have one or buy some trashy magazines. Have a great time.

tanned skin IS more damaged and DOES have more wrinkles.

what is the name of the process that makes leather?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/01/2015 20:56

Thank you to everyone for your kind words. I'm keeping the red costume as I really do like it and I do need a one piece. I'm quite long in the body and a lot of tankinis are too short.

I'm going to have a look at bikinis - if I can find bottoms that are quite deep (to hold the stomach in!) then I'll go for it. I'd never wear one here but I might pluck up the courage to wear one abroad! If I bring it back unworn there's always EBay!

Thank you again Flowers
