If you've had a blepharoplasty

How long did it take to recover? Is there anything I can do to make the effects of the surgery better? Any tips?
My eye bags have bothered me for so many years and this morning DH finally relented and said I could go ahead an get them sorted.
(I don't need his permission btw he just worries about me ending up looking like that Wildenstein woman or something and about things going wrong with the surgery so it's taken a long time to get him to support me on this.)
I am now trying to work out when I would be able to get this done in terms of recovery and the DC.

Touché éclat and sleeping more. Try looking in the mirror less. They won't bother you if you concentrate on other things.

Hi OP I saw this thread yesterday & was hoping you'd have lots of replies, I can't answer any of your questions as I haven't had the operation but I would love to! My upper eyelids have really sagged & really put a lot of pressure on my eyes, I swear they affect my vision. It's certainly not something a bit of make up is going to solve so I'm saving up! Good luck with your OP, I hope it goes well,

If it is affecting your vision then see your GP as it is a medical problem.

My mum had top and bottom done. It took about two months to settle to looking good - one eyelid (bottom) dropped and she was so scared she'd end up like that permanently but it's fine now. Tbh I can't see much difference - Id want mine done more dramatically.
She stayed overnight and was fine within a couple of days.

Also she took arnica supplements on their advice from about a week beforehand to afterwards.

Have you looked into tear trough fillers? I thought I had dreadful eye bags, but realised that actually I had bad tear troughs. I get dermal fillers put in them once a year or so now and the appearance of them is just so much better than before.

It might be worth having a consultation somewhere reputable first, before going for the surgery option. It could save you an operation and a whole load of discomfort etc.

Rajiv Grover is the surgeon I would go to if I was going to get my eyes done.

Have a look on his website, he has lots of useful info about the procedure.

My nan had her eyelids done on the NHS as they were seriously droopy and affecting her vision. It runs in the family, my mum could probably do with having hers done now, she's just turned 60, and I can tell I'm definitely going to need to get mine done in the future.

So my nan had it done under local anaesthetic (I think). She was in hospital for the morning and was home by 2pm. She had two black eyes for about a fortnight but felt great just the next day though, and was out and about and went out to a barbecue wearing huge sunglasses Grin. Once the bruising cleared up she was right as rain.

I looked back on this thread the other day and no-one had replied and then checked just now and there you all were! Grin
Itsbetter I've been doing makeup/eyecreams/teabags/denial for so many years now. I look at my dad's eye bags and know mine are heading that way fast. I just look so tired all the time Sad
Bestfriend it's grim isn't it? Even doing nice eye makeup is a waste of time for me. My upper eye lid covers and sags and my lower eye bag just looks awful. I hope you get the pennies together soon for your op! Keep me in the loop! x
Nerf does your mum feel better about how she looks? I think it is hereditary, do you suffer with this too?
Agatha I have thought about trough fillers but it's upper and lower bags I have. Well sagging above and pads of fat underneath.
Nancy I will look into this surgeon thank you
Cleanlines I had heard that local was becoming more common for this now because of healing just better all round. Is your nan loving her new eyes now? Grin

Hi there have you had surgery yet? I am also thinking about having this done if fillers don't work. I have lots of loose skin on upper eyelid and large bags underneath and always look tired. Think I used to be quite pretty when younger but now this has really affected my face and makes me look older than my 50yrs!

You can apparently also use radio frequency for this area but not sure how effective this is. I think it's more cost effective to go for surgery but alot more scary! I read a report online by a journalist from a paper I DO NOT BUY OR USUALLY READ ie the daily mail and she talked about her experience of blepheroplasty. She was very pleased with the results and took not very long off work but said it was some months before she felt she could eg go for a run confidently.

I am going to go for a consultation with Dr Tracy Mountford in London who was recommended by another mumsnet mum.

Any one else had blepheroplasty?
Many thanks, DB.
