talk to me about buying a gel nailsn starter kit

Am looking on Amazon and there are starter kits wiht UV lamp etc for around £40. Do you think they will be any good?

I hate sitting having things 'done' (I get fidgety) and get incredibly frustrated if I ever have nails done as I usually think I could have done it neater myself without having someone file the side of my nail until it bleeds: so if that's how much it is to have instant hard nail polish at home sounds worth it? Any recommendations of specialist sites or brands to buy from?

I have got the proxima direct one from Amazon. It was about £40 I think. I use the blue sky varnishes.
I think it looks very professional. Often better than a salon job that a friend has done.
Pain to soak it off though, I sometimes pick it off, which I know you shouldn't.

Not sure, but why would you want to?
I use base coat, three coats of colour then top coat. Works fine.

You can use them but I don't think they will look as good or tend to last as long from what I've heard. Try it.

Most kits come with one or two gel colours so you can try gel v non gel.

i had the bluesky kit from amazon what i would say is if u get the uv light the setting time is about 2mins. if u put loads of layers of varnish on, you need at least three, it can be quite time consuming.

the led lights set quicker i think, think sensationail is led.

you can use normal nail varnish between base and top coat ive found it to be a bit hit and miss tho. glittery ones with a matte texture seem to work just fine but ive tried some and when you set them the nail varnish kind of crinkles up. having said that ive just put 2 coats of a boots 17 normal nail varnish on and dried them under the uv light then a gel topcoat and thats worked fine.

get some alcohol lindt free wipes from ebay to finish them off with, can get 100 wipes individually wrapped for about £2.

Definitely go for LED rather than UV - safer and quicker and no bulb replacements to worry about

Yes you can put normal polish in between layers of gel base and top coat, but you do have to let it fully dry (30 mins) so it kind of cancels out the 'immediately dry after' benefit - which is my main reason for using

I still use my old normal polishes but tend to paint them over the gel just for a colour change - so I might have a pink gel manicure for 2 weeks, but paint over it with a bright blue normal polish for a night out which I then take off with acetone free remover day after. Gel is still perfect underneath
