Black tie party - will this dress do?

Hi ladies,
My friend is turning 50 and has hired a lovely hotel for a party at the end of Jan. The invitation says 'Black tie and posh frocks' so I have ordered my DH a tux from M&S and am now trying to sort myself out. I have this dress www.oasis-stores.com/fcp-product/3170138718
which I got in the sale before Xmas and it is nice and quite classy I think, but is it posh enough for this kind of event or do I need something long? I don't get invited to things like this very often and have no clue!

I could probably afford to spend about £60 if the general opinion is that it's not dressy enough. I am 39, dark brown hair, a curvy size 10 (big boobs) and 5'8.

If you think it's ok, any idea on shoes? I have some black court high heels, very plain but quite comfortable but would maybe want to get something nicer, although I have to be careful, I have a dodgy back so can't do crazy high or unstable shoes as we will definitely be dancing!

Appreciate your thoughts....

I'm pretty sure VW isn't going to shed any tears over someone as unstylish as me calling her clothes dull.

I'm not saying the dresses aren't nice, but there's nothing about them that screams 'look at me' which is what I kind of expect from her. They're very average IMO, nothing that you wouldn't see in a dozen other shops.

Could someone explain what makes them special?

Hi ladies,
So reporting back, I went out and bought this
www.coast-stores.com/jelena-jacquard-dress/short-dresses/coast/fcp-product/1399221?locale=en

It doesn't look that amazing in the picture but is lovely on and feels special. I then got these stroppy (!) sandals www.karenmillen.com/crystal-rock-sandal/sale-footwear/karenmillen/fcp-product/221FT09801

I have also ordered the black dress that I linked earlier in case I like it better but I think that I will stick with the blue. I must have tried on 50 dresses today and am ready for a rest! Hope you like - thanks for all of your help.

Lovely dress. It's all about how you feel wearing it isn't it?

Like the shoes too. Hope you and DH impress at the party Smile

The dress is lovely? How did you get on, chest-wise? My experience of Coast has been that they are v snug on the bust and v big on the shoulders.

Rogue question mark, sorry!
