At home keratin treatments

I have course and frizzy hair and cannot leave the house without having GHD'd my hair (I went crazy and had a fringe cut in recently so it's all a bit high maintenance for me at the moment!). Someone mentioned keratin treatments that can be done at home. Are they any good? Which is best? How long do they last?

TIA

The amazon one is great...Think it's called Keratin Kits. You do need a room with really good ventilation though (I have floor to ceiling doors that open onto a balcony, and standing outside blow drying my hair is the only way I can hack the smell). My hair looks so much better afterwards. It goes from a frizzy mess that needs blow drying and straightening, to hair that air dries smooth and sleek. You also need Sulphate free shampoo, and 3 days where you can go without washing it.

Thanks jewels that's exactly the result I am hoping for. I was looking at that one on Amazon. The reviews are really good. I saw a couple of reviews on there thought that said it dried out course/dry hair. Mine is seriously course dry thick frizzy- can I ask what your hair is like normally?

I used the one you can get in boots that is mango smelling (can't remember its name!) and it was rubbish. I followed the instructions to the letter and it really didn't help at all. The one thing that does help is slathering coconut oil (or coconut mixed with olive) on my hair and leaving it on till the next day then washing out. If I do that once a week, it makes my hair much softer, sleeker and shinier. I am tempted to try the amazon one now though... :). If you have curly hair does it still airdry wavy afterwards?

Surely inhaling something that strong can't be doing you any good?

My hair is extremely coarse and frizzy. The difference it makes is incredible. In fact, I don't use nearly as much conditioner afterwards because it's in such good condition. The only people I would warn off it were people who are after dead straight hair (it won't do this), and people with afro hair.

Zara makes a good point. I was talking to a friend who works in cancer treatment recently, and she said that she wouldn't use it, as she wouldn't want to risk anything that could potentially be carcinogenic.

Having said that, thousands of people use it, and I haven't stopped.

I'm wary as I was diagnosed with cancer nearly 6 years ago. I go as natural as possible now and using the Curly Girl method has totally transformed my hair and I now love my curls. I did the Keragreen Brazilian after growing my hair back after chemo. It is advertised as one of the more natural procedures and formaldehyde free. I wasn't aware that they can call chemicals different names to get around this and in fact contained 3% of this chemical.

Anyway, sorry to go off topic I am just interested if people are concerned about the chemicals used.

I hadn't even considered the fact that it could be carcinogenic! I'm having a definite rethink on this one now. As much as I wanted to get it done, this is seriously putting me off.... back to the GHDs for a while!
