i fancy having some highlights or lowlights done to my hair

my hair is red and copper colour

what colour do i go for?

am i right that highlights are brighter colours and lowlights are dark colours??? as ive never had it done before and will prob treat myself for my bday soon

i had it done recently. go for it. i think some light coloured (dare i say blonde hightlights) would look lovely with red hair.

I'd say go for it - talk to your hairdresser about what would work - sounds like lowlights might be good, chestnutty tones, or something like that.

Yes, go to a good hairdresser and ask for a consultation with a senior/experienced colourist - tell them if you want a natural or obvious look and they will pick out appropriate colours for you and show you in a book which has hair samples in. They normally choose two or three colours which are a couple of shades lighter or darker than your natural colour. When they do your hair they can also do a different weave depending on if you want a natural look (lots of fine strands) or something more obvious (bolder, thicker strands of colour.) Once you have had the consultation then book an appointment if you are happy. From my experience to get a good result it is worth spending a bit more, going to a good salon and choosing the most experienced colourist (even if you have to wait for an appointment).

Does the hairdressers high/low lights the hair first and then cut or the other way round??

Have both done they will look lovely with red hair.

Some hairdressers colour first and some cut first.
