Face powder recommendations - dewy, illuminating, moisturising ...

I know alive just posted about contouring kits but I'm also on the look out for a decent face powder.

I quite like it to even things out but want to avoid the old lady caked on flaky powder look.

Does a moisturising, fine, illuminating powder exist and if so ... Please share!

Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Natural ?

Lottapianos · 14/01/2015 02:25

I'm loving Bourjois Healthy Balance powder at the moment - lovely finish with no cakiness at all

coffeenut · 14/01/2015 09:37

I have the hourglass ... u have to be careful not to get too shiny with the glowy ones

chopinbabe · 14/01/2015 12:23

I like Cosmetics a la Carte Skin Veil...not a powder as such but I wear it as one-putting it on last- and it does give a lovely finish.

brakespeare · 14/01/2015 18:07

So this might be weird but I've started to see people recommending Corn silk! I was amused and curious about this before Christmas and saw it was sold out! If anyone knows if it's actually good and veil like but not powdery on, I'd love to know!

Lottapianos I just Boughton this and think I'm using it wrong! Seems patchy. I just wanted a powder to finish off liquid foundation that looks / feels too wet for blusher etc. Is it meant to be used like that?

Like the sound of some others but bit narked if I wasted a tenner.

mumteedum · 14/01/2015 18:12

Bought not Boughton. What is this phone doing!?

ZammoMcGuire · 14/01/2015 18:12

i think a powder stops you looking all the things you are trying to look

saturnian · 14/01/2015 18:21

agree! i tried the new mac one and it was crap, i like no7 bog standard, use illumintor to er, illuminate

ZammoMcGuire · 14/01/2015 18:22

face powder makes you look dry, matt and not any of that

why are you using it?

Leviticus · 14/01/2015 18:52

I like a bit of fine powder to de-shine my T zone and have been pleased with Loreal BB powder recently.

Powder doesn't have to look cakey and ageing as some say on here - ask Sali Hughes - but I would agree that it's not really the thing to get you moisturised and illuminated.

mumteedum · 14/01/2015 21:49

So if you don't use powder then do you use non powder blusher?

Kittykat7 · 14/01/2015 23:06

Corn silk is great. I am a beauty therapist makeup artist & it's the best loose powder I've used. I've been using if for 23 years the Original Satin. It is a neutral colour & doesn't change the colour of your foundation. It has a very slight shimmer but suitable for all ages.
Ambient Lighting powder is nice too.

MakeMeWarmThisWinter · 14/01/2015 23:18

I agree with Zammo! Spend time getting your skin all glowy and the texture just right with a primer and expensive foundation that provides a glow, then add powder to it? It's such an ageing look. More moisture not less is key to a youthful glow.

It's like adding an extra dollop of flour on top of a lovely cake mix before putting it in the oven 'just in case'.

Perhaps it was necessary in the past when foundations had a tendency to be greasy and oily, but now they are so light they provide the finish you want anyway.

I use cream blush and cream eyeshadow, cream highlighter too.

MrsGolightly · 14/01/2015 23:20

Creme de la mer is fab for that, then spritz your face post base application with Body Shop Vitamin E mist for a very dewy look.

trufflesnout · 15/01/2015 04:21

Powder is necessary if you have oily or combination skin though, I dab some very fine powder onto my temples and spotty areas where I get oily and it really helps.

ZammoMcGuire · 15/01/2015 06:32

I only use it (bobbi brown) if I need make to to last longer than usual. Not at all in the evening. Use cream
Blush. Yes

Lndnmummy · 15/01/2015 08:54

Powder these days do not have to be drying or ageing for the skin. Sali Hughes has written very well about this in one of her columns(google Sali Hughes Guardian powders).
NARS do a lovely radiance powder and I also like Chanel Les beige for this purpose.

ZammoMcGuire · 16/01/2015 06:07

Links are helpful. ;)

LeopardLamp · 25/01/2015 10:04

No7 translucent loose powder is lovely. I like the Mac skin finish mentioned above too.

frankietwospots · 25/01/2015 10:08

Agree with Zammo that cream blush (I use Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Powder Pink) is a good move for a dewy look. However, I'm going to take a look at Chanel Les Beiges as I've heard good things.
