Do you have a 'uniform'?

I've just been reading The Lazy Girl's Guide to Beauty and one of the suggestions made is to find yourself a 'uniform': something you can wear every day that is comfortable and suits you. You never have to expend any mental thought on what to wear because you always wear the same thing.

I could seriously warm to this concept, but would it not get a bit boring? Does anyone here wear the same thing day after day and if so, how did you narrow your choices down?

Do you mean literally the same outfit each day? Or more of a theme?

On work days I pretty much always wear A-line shortish skirt, top/shirt, cardi, tights boots, hair half-up. But I've got eg 4-ish skirts that I rotate (brownish, black, tweed etc), etc

I think I've sort of fallen into having a uniform. Currently I'm wearing jeans, jumper and boots every day (am a SAHM) and I'm getting really bored of it. That said, when I was working I alternated a wardrobe full of dresses so maybe I just lack style imagination Blush

HeyMicky · 13/01/2015 22:04

I do. I only wear dresses to work, have 7 that I rotate. Add cardi and tights as required. Never need to think

I've kind of fallen into that, mainly because I am lazy and like easy wear clothing. My uniform is boyfriend jeans, long vest and jumper and ankle boots .

I have so many different styles of clothing though, seems a waste to stick to one style and also it can get boring after a few days. It's a great idea for busy lifestyle/busy periods though

Pencil skirt / V neck top or fit and flare dress for work (I've got maybe 10 dresses that I just stick a long sleeved black or white top under in the winter). Makes life so easy. Tops are all coloured, skirts are black, grey or navy, just throw it all on and boom! Ready for work.

LTGreggs, I think I mean wearing the same kind of outfit every day. Kind of reminds me of that artist who wore the same dress every day for a year (and I do literally mean the SAME dress for a year - she washed it every few days, I should add). Nobody - and I mean nobody - noticed!

I do like the idea though. I work at home so it's not as if I need to be smartly turned out or anything. I like Batman's idea of something one can just throw on :)

It's all part of become a minimalist, which is something that's interesting me more and more. Good to hear everyone's ideas.

I'm on a real drive to be frugal this year and am trying to embrace a less is more attitude.
My work uniform is shirts or a fitted merino jumper with a pencil skirts, cigarette pants or smartish jeans.
Weekends I have a uniform of a striped top or chunky jumper, jeans, scarf and ankle boots.

Wellieswithaholein · 14/01/2015 08:54

No I have a style I prefer but not really a uniform.
I like to wear different things especially at weekends/nights out.

For work I go skirt, jeans, dress, leggings (and repeat with often different ones) with all different tops/jumpers/cardies/jackets, then I get my wear out of everything.

I don't have an extensive wardrobe or buy that much, in fact this way I feel I have loads of outfits without having to buy more.
I could never go for the capsule idea though a lot of my clothes mix and match well these days.

GraduallyGoneInsane · 14/01/2015 09:36

I kind of do. If I'm working I have to wear a suit, so I have 2 jackets, 2 dresses and a skirt in the same fabric, to mix and match. I put the skirt with a cream silk blouse or a black draped top. Done.

At weekends I wear dresses, usually printed ones. I throw over a cardigan, and scarf if it's cold. Tights and boots in winter. Ballet flats in spring. Bare legs and sandals in summer. All my dresses/cardigans are the same colour palette. Winter stuff is black, grey, pink, red as it matches with black tights. Spring/summer is navy, white, yellow, chambray denim. Easy.

i do and its so boring but with two under three its easy.

I wear jeans, stripey top, gillet and boots. I own stripey tops in every colour. All my clothes can get washed together and all dry quickly. I am a sahm and get sicked on regularly.

When my baby gets beyond this stage and i loose a bit more baby weight i fully intend to become far more groomed and dress better. I am on the princessing thread as i have become so far removed from looking after myself that i need a kickstart!

I pulled out my lovely (too small) summer dresses and will have them to throw on when the weather improves. Whilst i hope to be more groomed and chic i still need it to be easy.

I really admire women who manage to look well put together and groomed whilst having small children, i have friends who fit into this category and i honestly dont know where they find he time but perhaps they dont spend so much time moaning about lack of time on MN as i do!

I think it's a good idea to have three or four "uniforms" and basically alternate between them. Wearing the same thing day in and day out would feel a bit weird to me, not to mention you're screwed if someone spills coffee on you or whatever.

The basic concept is to establish entire outfits in advance, so if you pull out that black skirt, then you know to reach for the cream blouse, or if that's dirty, the red jumper.
