Looking for comfy, elasticated-waisted slacks

Well, not exactly, but I have a skin condition which doesn't look as if it is going away any time soon and can't wear anything that's tight or has a fixed waistband. At weekends, I'm currently living in jersey yoga pants from that bastion of stylishness, M&S, but these only seem to be available in black or navy.

Can anyone suggest anything else? Further essential information is that I am short, fat and middle-aged and look dreadful in leggings.

Have a look through crazy clearance. You can pick elasticated trousers up from about £7 on there.

Nomads used to do some jersey top trousers in a wide leg linen style which turn up on eBay a lot. They may bring them back in the Spring. Worth browsing through their offerings too.

Kaleidoscope is worth a look for pull on trousers.

MaudantWit · 11/01/2015 14:51

Thanks. I like the sound of the Nomad trousers, but I'm not sure u can bring myself to look at Kaleidoscope!

Hush harems - think they'll be coming back into stock after the sale. Pricey but last really well - I have worn mine loads since buying them about a year ago.

MrPop · 11/01/2015 15:06

These leggings are quite nice.

(I don't work for hush, honest)

Milmingebag · 11/01/2015 15:14

In the end they are just trousers and nobody is going to see the waistband. Who gives a flying fuck where they are from if they meet your needs?

MaudantWit · 11/01/2015 16:49

Yes, you are quite right, Mil, nobody else would know where they are from and, for the moment, I'm not in a position to be too fussy. And yet, for no logical reason, somehow I do care.

I like the harem pants, MrPop, thank you, but worry that on someone who is not blessed with length of leg, they might be too droopy and MC Hammer-ish. Perhaps I'll see whether they come back into stock and give them a go.

Have a look at Landsend Starfish trousers

MaudantWit · 11/01/2015 17:33

Funny you should say that, Hoppinggreen. I have a bit of a Land's End habit and have those in my basket.

I needed some comfy trousers for a new job recently and was shocked to find the exact colours and cut I wanted in,of all places, Bon Marche. They were really cheap but wash well (no the are NOT polyester!) 1 is fully elasticated and one partially.

I have actually had complements about one of the pairs - I will admit there was nothing else in the shop I fancied though.

Its my guilty secret for good work trousers now Wink

MaudantWit · 11/01/2015 22:33

I may be going shopping soon where there is a Bon Marche. I may put a paper bag on my head and go in then!

I have three pairs of these (blue, dark pink and black/white houndstooth- don't think they do so many colours now) www.uniqlo.com/uk/store/goods/128879 I wore them loads before I was pregnant- smart enough for work, comfy enough for home.

MaudantWit · 11/01/2015 22:53

Thank you. The waistband might be a problem, but I like the colours. I must engineer a visit to our local Uniqlo.

Is it just the waistband that's a problem? You could try going down a size in maternity wear to get a jersey waist on regular looking jeans/trousers.

Cocolepew · 12/01/2015 06:27

I was comingin to say Bon Marche too. DD is 17 and wears straight legged jeans from there which are pull on. They are lovely looking on her. Nobody sees the waistband so she's not fussed.

whitechocolatestars · 12/01/2015 06:38

Dresses might also give you some relief if you can face wearing them without tights or with hold ups?

I would second maternity wear, you could go high or low waisted with jersey waistband depending on what the condition means for you.

MaudantWit · 12/01/2015 08:54

Yes, it's the waistband that's the problem. I have chronic urticaria and anything tight and inflexible, like the waistband on my jeans, leaves me with huge, painful weals. I wear dresses to work and some of my tights cause problems, but other, stretchier ones don't. I'm looking for something more casual for weekends.

I think Bon Marche is going to be my next port of call. I'm hoping that I'll get on top of this and won't need the soft waists forever, so BM prices would be perfect.

So thank you to everyone who has offered suggestions.

Reporting back. I have returned from Bon Marche with two pairs of jersey trousers. They are essentially trackie bottoms, so not as smart as I might have hoped, but they meet the need. If this doesn't clear up soon, I may go back for some of their work-y trousers.
