Best place to sell jewellery and clothes

Hi,
I have that January feeling of having too much 'stuff' around not being used. I am also in the final few months of maternity leave so it makes sense to use the time wisely.

So...jewellery. I have some heavy silver Tiffany earrings, never worn (I don't wear earrings any more) - I have all the packaging etc but no recipt as they were a gift. Where is the best place to sell them? I have never sold jewellery before though my mum has made a fortune at cash for gold type placea wity broken necklaces etc.

Also, maternity clothes. I will definitely not be having anymoee and have quite a few Blooming Marvellous tops etc that are in good condition. Plus trousers and jeans which seem to do quite well on ebay. Is ebay the best place to sell? I am a memberof the local facebook selling group but I don't really want the bother of people bartering over the cost of a top. Has anyone successfully sold via gumtree for clothes?

I'd think about a small jewellers. They buy your jewellery for the metal weight and it's usually a great deal. They might sell on your Tiffany earrings as they're still boxed instead of melting.

Oh actually, have a Google for local vintage/designer second hand shops. There is one near me (N.E.) and they sell on old designer gear and take a cut.

You don't have to barter on Facebook local selling. You can state a price, or say 'offers over £xxx by 8pm Sunday' or something like that.

I made the most money selling clothes on EBay.

Yes, I think I will stick to ebay for clothes- a bigger market. I see some of the conversations on our selling page and people seem quite demanding and want everything for a pound. I will probably use the page if I have stuff that just needs a good home though.

I am just about to get back into eBay selling for clothes and the key to it, I reckon, is to send everything tracked.

Otherwise eBay is a nightmare!

I've never tried Gumtree for clothes / shoes, but would be interested in hearing from anyone who has. I put a Wii console up last year and got a fair bit of interest - four good offers.

Watching this as I've inherited a watch I want to sell (never actually worn Rolex from the 80s - any suggestions?).

I've been selling clothes on ebay recently and absolutely yes use a service with at least delivery confirmation. Royal Mail's 2nd class signed for is a gem at £3.90.

Absolutely. If you use tracked, and PayPal, you have financial redress in the case of scammers, from both eBay and PayPal. Don't scrimp, it's just not worth it.

As for the Rolex - do you have the original certificate and boxes etc?

Linerunner it's boxed, yes, and with the original receipt, I can't remember a certificate to be honest although there probably is one. It's packed away in the loft you see. I've absolutely no idea about selling something like that so I'd be grateful for any advice :)

I have been researching Rolex sales on eBay, as I have a 1990s model to sell, and the problem seems to be the preponderance (and fear) of fakes.

For your watches & earrings, try the specialist jewellery & silver sales that most auction houses hold. There are lots of auction houses all over the country. You can get a free valuation of any item you are entering for sale & can put a reserve on it so doesn't get sold for peanuts.

I would sell the Tiffany earrings on eBay as they are worth much more than the weight of silver used, and also eBAy for clothes, you could sell the maternity clothes together in one go.

The Rolex watch - lots of independent jewellers that sell second hand watches will buy it, especially if they resell prestige watches

Linerunner yes absolutely - the thought of selling something of value and that I don't know much about on ebay fills me with fear!

I regularly sell clothes shoes handbags and jewellery on eBay - every 2-3 months I have a mini clear out and usually earn enough to treat myself to a few new things
Golden rules for me are never sell anything that I wouldn't be happy to buy myself, good photos, accurate descriptions and send everything recorded or special delivery for valuable items
