Argh I've got a haircut that needs blowdrying and I'm shite at it. Help?

I have horse's hair. It's massively thick and coarse. I've spent two years growing out a butcher job thanks to a lovely hairdresser who has selfishly moved away, so tried new one out.

She took lots of weight out of it, it looked lovely when she dried it, but I've tried myself (using only technique I can manage; blast with hairdryer and then straighten) and it's all bloody flicky.

I HATE blow drying and I'm rubbish at it but clearly going to have to improve till it grows out. Any good tips, guides you can recommend?

Is it really that good?
I have so many hair gadgets. can i really justify spending more money? What worries me is the reviews that say they get frizz. My hair is prone to drying out and frizziness, so dont need that making worse!
My hair is quite fine, lots of it and a tendency to be very dry.

Greengardenpixie · 10/01/2015 00:29

Oh and its past shoulder length, so it would need to be the larger barreled one?

SirChenjin · 10/01/2015 09:37

Green - I don't think it would need to be a 50mm one, but it would probably work better on longer hair. I haven't found it gives me frizz - my hair is dry and frizzy, so start with a heat defence spray and then put mousse on (a MN tip), then go through it with the BBH.

You really do need to blast it with a hairdryer until it's almost dry - never use it on wet hair, and for some reason it doesn't seem to work nearly as well on air dried hair.

Venus sadly mine is not curly, it's more wavy and kinks all over the place. And there's a lot of it if I just leave it to dry naturally - causes the Chen household much hilarity Sad

I think we have the same hair, Chen. Mousse, you say? Must be 20 years since I owned any of that

I ordered the small one, but I don't actually want big curls at the ends, just for it not to flick out so hoping will be ok.

Yes, mousse. Like you, I had to suppress memories of perms (made all the larger with mousse and a diffuser ), but it does seem to work, especially if it has a heat guard in it. They seemed to have progressed somewhat since 1987 Grin

My hair us longer than shoulder length and I have the 42 bbh it's great. £20 in Asda just before Xmas. It's brilliant. I use it on nearly dry - dry hair and it finishes it off lovely.

SuperFlyHigh · 10/01/2015 19:20

BBH is great. I rough dry then finish off to style. For work and in hurry.

Evenings etc I concentrate more on roots and even better.

Also next hair appointment quiz the stylist about what they do, how they do it, even ask them to show you.... Often they're more than happy to say and recommend products.

Update for those of you who might want a BBH at the bargain price: I did a ring round of the Sainsburys I could get to, and one about half an hours' drive away had six in stock so I shot down there and bought one for 19.99.

Will try out later and report back Smile

Hurrah! Very pleased for you, and look forward to your update Smile

Moroccan Aargon oil on wet hair then use the hairdryer straighr away before frizz and kinks set in.
b,ow your hair on a slow speed using fingers to smooth and in the opposite direction that you wear it. When it's almost dry use BBH to finish it off and smooth.
I found that if I try to use the BBH when my hair is still too wet I end up breaking it. I've broken 3...

teawamutu · 13/01/2015 08:30

Reporting back: you were right. I luffs you all.

I used mousse (Aussie one) and argan oil, blow dried, bbh'd and then ran straighteners through. Whole thing took 35 minutes (less time than it takes me to blow dry v badly with a round brush) and I finished with smooth, bouncy, swishy hair. Ends are still annoying me but that's the cut I think.

Total, total bargain. And still smooth after being slept on x2 and rained on this morning.

THANK YOU Flowers

Welcome to the BBH Appreciation Society! I'm just hoping they soon bring out a 'travel size' BBH, where you can remove the brush from the handle.

hellsbellsmelons · 13/01/2015 11:35

I got mine too - haven't tried them yet.
Left it curly this morning as it looked damp and horrid outside.
Will try them at the weekend.
Can't wait.

Are they easy to use?

SirChenjin · 13/01/2015 13:11

As Petal says - welcome to the BBH Appreciation Society! They are marvellous things, aren't they?

DrElizabethPlimpton · 13/01/2015 13:26

I will have to look at sainsburys. My BBH of only a few months has died!Angry
