I have dry skin on my and am really good about moisturising/using oil/exfoliatuing. My scalp is now really dry and flaky, it's really big flakes and quite noticeable:( What can I do??? it's everywhere. Have tried head and shoulders, didn't work. It's almost like I need a moisturiser for my head but how do I do that without it getting greasy?

Philip Kingsley products - pricey, but worth it.
To get things back on track, try the scalp exfoliator mask a couple of times a week - really cooling and effective - and then once a month after the flakiness is gone.
The Flaky and Itchy Shampoo is great and I use it regularly, as well as the Scalp Toner (you put on after washing).
The PK website does small kits and trial sizes, I think.
Have a look at lookfantastic.com and similar for PK kits in the sale. Also M&S do PK and every so often have 20% off.

You have to try the scalp soother oil by fushi, it's incredibly nourishing for dry scalps. They also do a scalp soothing shampoo

I tried Philip Kingsley, nutrogena (the brown one that smells like tar), head and shoulders, aveda scalp benefits, Pantene mens dandruff shampoo (the dark bottle with the Orange lid) and None of them worked. Have just discovered Kerastase Derma care range - it is great. There are two versions - I like the opaque one rather than the clear one - both are fine on scalp but my hair gets a bit dry and the opaque one is more moisturising. You can usually get discounts on kerastase from the hut group websites (lookfantastic, beauty expert and so on).

I'm using body shop's ginger shampoo and it's working. So far!

I had the problem. .. After using Elvive for men (I am female) it has completely gone now. . gone after the second use. Just wash your hair with it and rinse immediately. .. Don't leave it to"soak"like you normally have to.

tiredtoday · 07/01/2015 18:03

It's proper full name is Elvive for men anti dandruff. . In an orange and black bottle. . Can get it cheap at asda tesco etc

NormaCore · 07/01/2015 18:13

Philip Kingsley flaky itchy shampoo is fab. The only thing I found to sort out my scalp.

McFox · 07/01/2015 18:15

I think that nioxin is better than the PK stuff, again it's pricey but really good.

RojaGato · 07/01/2015 18:28

Dr Hauschka Neem lotion sorted that out for me. Needed to pour a lot on my head at once, so scalp was totally saturated. Got 2 or 3 applications out of the bottle. But it worked.

massagegirl · 07/01/2015 19:19

Thank you. Forgot to mention I have ridiculously thick hair so need a lot of product. Will try these ones.

Hello OP. the Neem lotion is really thin, like water, so if you pour it on the top of your head, it trickles down the scalp really easily, you don't need to get it on all your hair, just on your scalp.

middleagedbread · 07/01/2015 21:19

I know this sounds weird but try Dentinox for Cradle Cap. I always keep a bottle handy and it works for my flakey scalp.

lolalalabing · 04/02/2015 17:21

The Boots Expert Dandruff Shampoo is amazing and cheap too. When all others failed (Head & Shoulders, Nizoral, Neutragena etc) this sorted me out

ROARmeow · 04/02/2015 19:56

Do they work on ppl with ezema or similar complaints?

constancef · 04/02/2015 20:17

I started buying neutrogena for my teenagers and their horribly flaky scalps and it cured it - not the anti-dandruff one but the one for greasy hair. I use the clear one for dry hair. They're brilliant.

Joico daily treatment shampoo. Recommended to me by a Trichologist and my go to product for over 20yrs. Fabulous stuff. Do a first wash and rinse then repeat but leave on for a few minutes before rinsing and following with conditioner. Approximately £10 a bottle and I buy it online.

Littleturkish · 04/02/2015 20:28

I used Scalp Benefits until after my DD was born, it just stopped working. Switched to Nioxin. That's worked for about a year, and now I'm going to try the Philip Kingsley stuff.

I had a spa scalp treatment at the hairdressers that was brilliant, but pregnant and the dry scalp is so bad it's actually bleeding in parts. Yuck.
