Balayage

Hello,

I've had Balayage done once but just around the front of my face, the hairdresser used foils but low down, scatterred, The effect was as I wanted.

I'm going for 'full' Balayage on Saturday - just a bit concerned I'll end up with what looks like grown out highlights if foils are used all round.
When I do research it implies Balayage should be painted on freehand?
Does anyone have experience of this using foils?

No. I have always understood that the whole point and meaning of balayage ( which I do have from my present colourist) is that it's 'painted on' freehand and so doesn't involve foils.

I had an ombre done, don't know if this is exactly the same?

They used foils on mine, but slightly different from regular highlights. The section of hair was weaved into with the comb and then half of it disregarded, but then the piece to be died was backcombed up so not all of it had dye on. The dye was painted on at the ends and then wrapped up in the foil once done.

The combing out was pretty uncomfortable in parts, due to all the back combing but I do like the effect.

Balayage ( from French balayer - literally to sweep) always involves 'painting' on, not foils.

Yes my understanding is that balayage is always painted on, a hairdresser using foils for this, just lower down than normal highlights, isn't balayage at all
