Boob job - surgeon recommendations & recovery time, driving, lifting kids etc

I think 2015 may be the year that I have a boob job.

I'm looking for surgeon recommendations for surgeons who work in the Derby/Nottingham/Leicester areas. More concerned about finding someone really good and less bothered about the cost at this stage. I know that I would have to pay for a consultation with some surgeons - this is fine.

Which is better - under muscle or over muscle? I am very keen to avoid the look where you see the round implant really clearly, especially at the top of the boobs. I'm after a more natural look. I am 5' 3", 9stone, size 8-10 but not skinny. Wearing a B cup but have lost volume due to pregnancies (& ageing I guess - I am approaching 40). Looking to go to a D/DD.

Also - recovery. I have a young toddler still at the age where he needs lifting/carrying a lot. How long post-op would I be able to lift him into his cot for example? (Currently weighs around 27lbs so quite hefty!).

How soon will I be able to drive?

I'm quite a tough cookie so its not really the pain that I am worried about, more the damage that I may do to myself/stiches etc if I try to do too much too soon iyswim.

Sorry this is long!

Under the breast tissue gives a more natural look, and avoids that obvious implant look. Pain wise, I was completely unprepared for the pain afterwards. I'm normally fine with ops, child birth etc but this really hurt. You won't be able to drive or lift for a good month/ 6 weeks. And you have to wear a very supportive sports bra type thing for ages. Day and night. I can't exactly remember how long. However 5yrs on I'm still really happy with mine and I'm about the same size as you. Very pert still Wink

I'm in your area OP, and would definitely recommend Mr Yii. He has a very good reputation in the East Midlands, and in addition to his private cosmetic surgery patients, carries out reconstructive breast work for the NHS. He is especially good for 'natural results.'

I had implants over the muscle, I requested this as I'd heard recovery is quicker as they don't need to cut through the muscle. Even so, it was a good 2/3 weeks before I could drive, and probably a month before I was back to my normal routine and possibly a little longer before I could lift anything particularly heavy. Mr Yii was satisfied that I had sufficient natural breast tissue to hide the implant, otherwise he would have suggested going under the muscle.

I'm very pleased with my results, you'd never know they weren't real!

Not a helpful post, but I just wanted to say go for it, OP. I'd love to get my boobs done, I'm currently in between a C & a D, which is frustrating. I have a lot of weight to loose first.

I do have a question though, are you paying cash or going through finance?

porridgeforbreakfast · 28/12/2014 12:26

You're not going to like what I'm about to say...

Don't do it!!

You will need further surgery in the future to correct/revise/remove them.
It's not worth it.
Do you REALLY want to put bags of gel into your body that can leak/move/cause infection???? I am a nurse and have seen the consequences of what happens when it all goes wrong. It's not worth it.

Please please please reconsider.
There is nothing wrong with being a B cup. I am, and I am happy!

I had mine done 14 years ago to disguise a chest deformity and they have been trouble free so far. My surgeon was great (but in Dorset so no good for you!). I had silicone implants placed under the muscle, I couldn't have had them over the muscle as had barely any breast tissue. This has produced a very natural look and people are often surprised if I say I've had implants.

My youngest DS was six months old when I had them done (I had waited to see if my breasts changed while pregnant, but no such luck!), and I remember the first two weeks being quite painful, with difficulty picking him up, but I certainly managed it when it was necessary, albeit with lots of help from painkillers!

I emailed the surgeon a couple of years ago in light of them being over ten years old, and because I wanted to know whether they were PIP implants. The surgeon advised that they weren't PIP, but also said that as long as I wasn't having any problems with them, they wouldn't need replacing. I was quite surprised at this, as I had assumed he would be happy to take my money for a replacement pair!

It was definitely the right decision for me, I had huge self esteem issues because of the way I looked, I felt like a freak Sad and had had many insensitive comments from people wanting to know what was wrong with my chest...I remember waking up from surgery and dragging myself to the mirror, then crying with happiness that I finally looked "normal".

If it's what you want OP, and you've considered the possible complications carefully, then go for it! Just make sure you find a reputable surgeon; a friend of mine had hers done by one of the most expensive surgeons in London, who was regularly on tv, who used PIP implants - she had to have hers replaced after only a few years as they had leaked.

Lots of good advice already but you do need to realise that there is actually no such thing as a B cup or a D cup. Read this. You say that you want to be a D/DD? What underbust are you, if you measure following this guide? A DD on a 28 band is a very small chest, a DD on a 36 band is bigger! You need to establish your correct bra size now and then think about what you want you new size to be. Be warned, many sugeons raelly have no clue about proper sizes!

Sonoma · 28/12/2014 15:57

I am similar frame to you, slightly lighter (not skinny either!!) - just wanted to say those will be big boobs, I'd go for C/D if you want a natural look. Good luck, don't think I'd ever be brave enough.

Thanks all, I've read lots on the bra threads but I am honestly a 34/b. if I was happy to wear a bra that was uncomfortably tight then yes I could wear a 32/c. I wear 8-10 clothes but am quite broad, I would describe my frame as medium, definitely not petite. (& even if I squeezed myself into a 30/d, it wouldn't change the fact that I'd like bigger boobs).

I just think having bigger boobs would be preferable (for me). I understand about the cc/cup size thing & will be discussing this when I meet surgeons.

There's nothing wrong with being a b cup, I'd just prefer to be bigger. Struggling on surgeons though, mr McCulleys name keeps popping up in my area though.

I had under muscle anatomicals (teardrop shape to look more natural) in 2007. Went from 32AA to 32D and although they are in proportion with my hips I wish they were a tiny bit smaller as they do look a little fake (probably as I had so little to start with) and one of them has a little capsular contracture so looks more fake and not as nice a shape as the other. I'm also quite slim and they make me look a little heavier than I am in the wrong top..
If/when I have another baby I'll have them downsized afterwards.

MadameLeBean · 28/12/2014 17:21

Oh mine were 295cc high profiles and I think I will ask for 200 next time

IBrokeTheInternetB4itWasCool · 28/12/2014 17:45

I'm planning a boob job in 2015 too (preferably with a lotto win, otherwise with finance)! If anyone has a recommendation for a good surgeon for natural looking boobs and minimal scarring - anywhere in the West Sussex/Hampshire/Surrey/London area, I'd love to hear please.

Thank you Sorrel for the link to how to measure your bra size properly. Mine have changed so much after having kids, I couldn't find a bra to fit properly - they look so awful in bras I have cried bra shopping on more than one occasion! I thought I was about a 32b, it turns out I'm about a 28e - no wonder they looked awful and unsupported! Thank you so much. (I still want them lifted and filled though, whatever size that makes them)!

bluebird55 · 17/03/2015 20:40

Hi, did you have any luck in getting recommendations for a surgeon in Surrey? I'm looking for a surgeon at the moment and am really keen to hear of any experiences in Surrey.

Thanks!

FTS123 · 17/03/2015 20:49

I had mine done in January and could not be more pleased with them. I had 380cc over the muscle. My surgeon went over the muscle as I had some tissue to cover the implant to make it look more natural. I've gone from a 32B (at a push) to a 32DD and they are bloody amazing! I feel in proportion for the first time in my life. Best money I've ever spent! Had paracetamol after the op but only once, honestly was pain free. Drove after 4 days (carefully) but didn't lift anything heavy for 2 weeks, and wore my sports bra religiously day and night for 6 weeks. Be prepared to have numb boobs though, I still have no feeling but hoping it will gradually return! I can feel more as time goes on.

Pripene · 04/11/2015 06:45

Hi.. I had mine done in Feb 2015 and I am not familiar with any surgeons who work in the Derby/Nottingham/Leicester areas. I have done mine in in McLean Clinic, Mississauga. It was a good experience and my boobs look so natural and had minimal scarring. I really love my boobs now. Go ahead. But make sure you choose the right surgeon. All the best friends.
