Talk to me about bras.

I've just ditched two bras, and I need to replace them. One black and one white.
I can't remember when I last bought a new one, or where is best to get them from. I'm a 34b (measured about a year ago) and can spend up to about £25 unless you tell me I can't get anything for that

Where shall I go? I'm in a large city, so most shops are here.

rivier is this conversion chart any good to you? [http://www.herroom.com/european-lingerie-size-conversions,929,30.html chart]]

I always thought (or was told) I was a 36c, little did I realise that I actually a 34F.
The lady working in M&S changing room gave me a 'look' when I walked past her with 2 34F bras to try on as they did look very big and I don't look like I would ever be that size but they were a perfect fit and totally changed the way my tops fitted.

rivierliedje · 15/12/2014 20:51

Thanks treacle! I'm going to have to g to a fancy shop aren't I? With that kind of size. I've never seen 28 backs before except in the childrens sections with the training bras.

katiesnicks · 15/12/2014 21:09

M&S all the way, beautiful underwear lasts well, washes well they have a measuring service too. I love M&S for bras and they have a vast range of prices :)

EYPEdinburgh · 15/12/2014 21:10

Always follow the size guide on the independent websites/shops. All shops make the bras differently and the sizes are just as bad. I don't wear wired bras so it tends to not be a huge issue with sizing (I can just adjust to fit more snuggly).

I don't think it matters where you buy a bra, so long as it fits comfortably and you are happy with it. I know Primark do some nice bras however aren't great for larger sizes.

Hope this helps.

katiesnicks · 15/12/2014 21:12

And just seeing like you may be bigger than you thought there pretty bras come in larger sizes I'm a 36D and have beautiful underwear :) and have noticed DD cups

WowserBowser · 15/12/2014 21:16

I'm a 30F Katie (with smallish norks) so would be buggered then!

WowserBowser · 15/12/2014 21:17

...although they'd probably talk me in to a 34B Xmas Grin

kecz · 15/12/2014 21:31

Another one who picked up on this thread who would appreciate some advice! My bras haven't been fitting right for a while and I just measured according to the link and it seems I measure 34 and 40.5. Any suggestions? Am I right in thinking that should be a 34E or F? Anyone know what this is in continental sizes?

twobambinos · 15/12/2014 21:34

I'm 29 under boob and 39 at the fullest part. The town I live in is not big and i know they measure wrong so I don't really want their help. I thought I was a 34 e but would these measurements suggest 30 gg or would anyone know? Was having a browse in a shop today and I couldn't even see this size. I'm currently wearing 34s and most of them are loose but sometimes I find the bra does dig in. I would consider myself to have a fleshy back but honestly I think I'm a but harsh on myself. Cheers for the help oh wise ones

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/12/2014 21:44

Kecz, yup that's where I would start

Two bambinos, try 28GG, 28H, 30GG and 30G. You won't get it in cheaper stores but Bravissimo, John Lewis and Debenhams stock, and loads of places online

treaclesoda · 15/12/2014 21:47

kecz the link I posted for riviere should give an idea of what your size might be called elsewhere in Europe.

rivier 28 back is easy to get in the UK but I've seen other posters say that it is much harder elsewhere. Bravissimo do international delivery but unfortunately I think their free returns service only applies to the UK.

Shonajay · 15/12/2014 21:53

If you know your size, eBay. I fit perfectly into a gossard glossy 34ff and am waiting for them to stop being so popular- also the gossard outlet is fab, half price or less. I got a panache swimsuit for £19 instead of full price in Debenhams at £65 on eBay also.

KateBuryUK · 15/12/2014 21:54

I buy bras from Debenhams. I find them very comfortable. On the occasions that i have been measured for a bra, in other shops, they tell me I need a 36A, and have bought their recommended bra which they say gives me support. The problem is the band is so tight, it hurts. So now, I do buy 36A but Debenhams bras are more stretchy and much more comfortable.

WowserBowser · 15/12/2014 22:00

Kate - your cup size could be too small making them tight rather than the band.

SorrelForbes · 15/12/2014 22:19

Late to the party Blush.

katiesnicks if you've been measured at M&S then I'm afraid you're probably in the wrong size. Honestly, a DD is not a big size.

SorrelForbes · 15/12/2014 22:20

KateBuryUK what are your measurements?

CaulkheadUpNorth · 15/12/2014 22:33

I'm so pleased I began this thread. Thank you to all the wise bra experts out there. Grin

mrpickles I am virtually the same size as you but hormones and weight gain have added to it I'm now a 28ff/g but sometimes 30 whatever.

My revelation was discovering I have a narrow back yet boobs not noticeably bigger (though not small) in front.

I do get slightly annoyed I have to buy the dearer bras.

[www.investinyourchest.com] is a blog review place for narrow backs and busty women. They also tell you about bargains and bright colours/styles.

I'm same as some if you wide spaced boobs need balconette or Demi balconette to suit. Forget t shirt or other bras!

My one holy grail when will they do a backless or very low back strapless bra/body. My size nothing or it doesn't work can't be that hard to engineer!

SuperFlyHigh · 15/12/2014 22:38

OP it'll be a revelation albeit an expensive one.

It's amazing feeling a proper feeling bra (not tight but almost that way) that's when you know it's supporting les norks!

Try debs too their gorgeous range is v nice and v reasonable esp in sales.

OliviaRinHerts · 15/12/2014 22:59

Came upon this thread... I've never felt my bras were comfy. When I was prgnant I Started wearing the bras that look like spots bras as they were very comfy. My midwife after I gave birth was horrified at what I was wearing So I bought a couple of breastfeeding bras (still not comfy) but presume I should wait until ive stopped breastfeeding to get fitted for a new bra? I was always a 36b but I had tried a 38B and a 36 /38 c and I feel they are either too small or big.

treaclesoda · 15/12/2014 23:14

olivia if you fancy joining in and posting your measurements, someone might have some suggestions.

evenafterall · 15/12/2014 23:17

Nothing wrong with primani - in your I size lots of choice Smile

OliviaRinHerts · 15/12/2014 23:26

Thanks. I will definitely post my measurements - as soon as I can buy a soft measuring tape. The only ones I have are the DIY ones (can't imagine measuring my boobs with the metal tape!) and I desperately need a dress makers tape.
