can we have a thread for dressing 'apron' tummies?

I hate mine and am wearing crap clothes as I simply don't know what to wear.
I need to lose weight but in the mean time - can we hide here with our horrid tums??

After 3 C-sections I have one, even though I'm not overweight.
I wear lots of dresses. The shape of Seasalt dresses covers it well for day time.
I like 1950s dresses for going out, tight fitting at the top and flared from the waist so the overhang is invisible.

itsbetterthanabox · 17/12/2014 17:13

It's not horrible. It's just a different shape. Some people get it just from pregnancy without c-section or those who have lost a larger amount of weight.
If it is uncomfortable though high waisted knickers are good!

feelingunsupported · 18/12/2014 19:53

I have about an hour in the morning to find something half decent to wear for my work night out. Any suggestions for high street, apron hiding, big boobs and short arse friendly? ? Preferably a dress so I can get it in one hit (I'm skint! )

I wear a tube skirt from hush, thick tights and boots. I layer on top. Long boots, docs or ankle boots. Or I wear a thin wool skater dress with boots as before with a velvet jacket and lots of necklaces. Nothing fitted under the bust as it makes me look pregnant:)

I don't wear trousers atm. But I need to lose some weight and I know it:)

Marking place x

HarveySpecter · 18/12/2014 20:25

Another plea for links :) and good pants too

feelingunsupported · 18/12/2014 20:26

Wish I'd gone shopping earlier!! ;-)

I got this for work Christmas stuff:
www.east.co.uk/velvet-shift-mesh-dress-black/

Very flattering and fabric is nice.

feelingunsupported · 18/12/2014 20:55

Faf - I like both of those - reallllly wish I'd shopped earlier, our town centre is rubbish.

I like the 50s look but not sure if I can pull it off!

OP posts:
FaFoutis · 18/12/2014 21:19

I wear big boots laced up to my knees with the 50s dresses. Hardens them up a bit!

This one: www.amazon.co.uk/Lindy-Bop-Ophelia-Vintage-Floral/dp/B00JGSHC0I/ref=sr_1_4?s=clothing&ie=UTF8&qid=1418937253&sr=1-4&keywords=lindy+bop

I wore to weddings in the summer.

I haven't seen anyone who doesn't suit 50s dresses, they are very flattering.

feelingunsupported · 18/12/2014 21:47

I like that too. I rarely buy online as my huge 34hh boobs make sizing stuff difficult and I never get time to return stuff - I need to get past that I think as our high street is so bad.

Any suggestions for Next, Dotty P / Debenhams. .. not much more choice in town :-(

OP posts:
FaFoutis · 18/12/2014 22:13

Look in Debenhams for the fit and flare shape but don't bother trying on anything with a high neck.

Nothing in Next that I could see and I don't like the clingy fabrics in DP.

Good luck on your mission!

feelingunsupported · 19/12/2014 09:03

Will do - thanks! 1 hpur maximum with ds in his buggy - this is going to be the best shopping trip ever not

Do Modcloth have any UK presence? Love what I saw but would need to order more than one for size etc.

Pompbear · 20/12/2014 13:21

m.evans.co.uk/h5/product?productId=17438752 this is lovely!

InanimateCarbonRod · 22/12/2014 11:16

Mod Cloth are only available online. Their sizing is excellent and they have great feedback from people who wear their clothes and they do say whether the items run true to size or whether to size up or down. I bought a gorgeous dress for Christmas day. I'm a UK size 20/22 and bought a 2xl and it fit perfectly. Will be buying more dresses in January sales!

feelingunsupported · 22/12/2014 23:28

Does anyone else find that control undies 'control' the wrong place? I've got some drom Debenhams (had them quite a while) and they have a ridge which I assume is for 'tyre control' but my horrid apron is very low down so misses the control bit!

Any recommendations for jeggins? I usually just wear leggings and dresses but would consider jeggins, boots and a top.

I'm only 5'2" and size 16 Blush

Gok wan jeggings (sainsburys) sit nice and high, good with knit or shirt on top. You might have to keep popping in store, they sell out fast.

I wear maternity jeans and trousers sometimes because they sit right.

My tummy is horrible, I have exercised down to no overhang before, my navel disappeared to was a 3 inch line, and my tummy looked like a circular bag of wrinkles.

On the plus side, I probably would have died without intervention (c sections) so...

feelingunsupported · 23/12/2014 23:57

Me too Jacky!

Only thing is though - I feel like my low belly hang gets erm... squashed rather than hidden by high stuff. I need 'support' heavy duty scaffold really low down.

I have an apron following a hysterectomy. For looking good I have a stretchy control long vest thingy out of TK Maxx. Very comfy and holds stuff in place.

LadyB49 · 24/12/2014 01:18

I also have a stretchy pull on like a swimsuit from M &S. Doesn't make me smaller but does smooth the lines and hold apron gently.
I didn't know I had a hysterectomy apron until I saw this thread, just referred to my jelly belly.

feelingunsupported · 24/12/2014 13:28

I'm going to make it my mission to raid the January sales and try to improve the way I dress - I'm fed up of dressing like a frump because of my tummy and am feeling better on the back of this thread

OP posts:
feelingunsupported · 26/12/2014 12:19

Has anyone found anything flatteringIin the sale that they can link to?? :-)
