book launch party - help

Argh I've gone up 2 dress sizes from most of my clothes. What on earth do I wear to a book launch/ party after? I think even my shoes don't fit. I recall Bridget Jones may have worn huge pants, but time is ticking and I own no huge pants. Jersey dress too scruffy? or are they casual ish? or quite party/semi smart things? erm. arh.

Usually book launches are fairly casual but it really depends on the book - and who is organising the party!

I've been to all kinds - I would be guided by the venue and the time (the more exclusive/expensive the smarter it is likely to be) - so a lunchtime book launch in a local book shop would be more casual than drinks at the Savoy.

The more high profile the book and the author, its more likely the publishers will pay for a more stylish affair as they'll be trying to get celebs in for the photo-ops.

Smart pair of high heeled boots, smart black jeans and a glamorous colourful top is my answer to feeling fat party wear!

ok, so middle of the road dressy-casual? It came as a party invite -it's at publishers, evening, boozy, media types - but not at savoy. perhaps it will be dark, and dark jersey dress may suffice, with appropriate footwear.. [have no appropriate footwear]

Dark jersey dress sounds perfect ime. Just do nice nails or something to add polish. Enjoy! They're usually good fun.

I wore it to a party full of literary/meeja types with a bright red necklace, brogues and a cardi. May not be your style but I felt a bit 'Bloomsbury' rather than tightly dressed up and it was v flattering despite the number on the label being higher than I'd prefer

I have nice ankle boots, but they are also too small (seriously, I think the extra weight makes my feet a size bigger through gravitational splaying effect..) sobs normally 8ish, crept to 12, but that's a vanity-sized 12, I'm probably a 14.. so no chance of fitting into my dresses etc. [eats biscuit pondering this]

it's probably not too big a deal, I just think lack any idea when every morning faced with 'gah nothing fits' - ehem.
ok - add polish somehow (looks at scraggly unpolished nails) dress/tights/some kind of shoes.

alternative = knitted sweater with flowery silk skirt (if it does up)

When is it OP? Can you just do a quick asos or new look order if nothing fits?

or a dress black/pale pink huge flowery silk thing which I think I once wore when pregnant with black cardigan
unearthed lovely dress about a size 10 really gorgeous colours, black,green,indigo,dark red.. does not fit
