The perfect black jeans - suggestions please!

I would like some jeans that are black, proper black, not grey. They need to flatter a size 16 with a bit of 'support'.
Definitely not skinnies, probably straight or boot-cut, with a bit of stretch.

Budget - up to £100

Try the Mint Velvet style Detroit . A true black black. Described as skinny but fit my curves . Fabric has 2 percent elastane, so a bit of "give". £79 in John Lewis.

I have also got some black denim from Gap from last winter called Real Straight . Very flattering cut . The black dye has lasted well through several washes . Seems to be a product that is still available on Gap website .

Thank you. I have chunky calves so I don't want to go anywhere near anything "skinny". Are they really not clingy?

My chunky thighs are my main problem, but the rest of my legs are pretty hefty too. The Gap jeans may be the best fit for you but I was surprised that the Mint Velvet fitted me so well. I would not have tried them on if I had spotted the word "skinny"! I honestly think with jeans that you just have to try loads on and see what suits you . As an alternative I have a White Company pair of loose leisure black trousers that I have been wearing constantly and they have prompted favourable comments from friends - they are very far from track suit bottoms but look smart!

I know you said you don't want skinnies but do also try Molly jeans from River Island. I am a 14/16 shorties with big tum and bum. Honestly I look slimmer with these on then my normal bootcut jeans

Have you tried Oasis? Their 'cherry' style is a slim straight leg in a thick but stretchy denim. I think they're v flattering to chunky legs. As for black - I think all you can do is buy the black ones, wash 'em inside out and accept that you might have to run them through the washing machine with a black Dylon dye. They're around the £40/50 Mark so you cld get 2 pairs and colour would last longer :)

Ooh, I have a big stand-alone M&S near me, that is tempting. Are they a good, solid black Rivercam?

It's worth looking in Uniqlo. They have a few styles, and their skinnies have some stretch and a decent rise at the crotch. The heat tech ones are very black.

i like the topshop baxters,, online only these days

Oh my god thank you thank you THANK YOU gonegrey, have just picked up my Mint Velvet Detroits order and they are amazing. I could almost cry. Was not at all sure about £80 for a pair of jeans but I swear they have shaved 2" off my stubbornly chunky thighs & calves. AND they are a decent rise at the waist. It's a miracle. As soon as I've lost 10lbs will be buying these in every available colour.

(Also tried the Oasis Cherries which were OK, good thick denim but not particularly flattering. Usually live in Gap true straight, they are great everyday jeans, or Uniqlo slim straights which have a good amount of give but don't go too baggy. Hope that's helpful. I'm currently a 14 on the bottom half but my legs look bigger).
